Equity actors for roles in Theater Latte Da 2023-24 Season (see breakdown).
Theater Latte Da is seeking people of all ethnicities and gender identities to fill the roles for each production. Applicants must be available for all technical rehearsals and performances as well as rehearsals prior to tech.
Please prepare a brief cut of a contemporary musical theatre song, not a cappella, that shows your vocal range, and a contemporary monologue no longer than 3 minutes. An accompanist will be provided.

Seeking:
MARVIN: 30s – Jewish, any ethnicity. A devoted husband and father, smart, funny and charming. Struggles to reconcile his desire for a happy traditional family with his love for WHIZZER. High baritone.
WHIZZER: 20s-30s – any ethnicity. Charismatic and confident. HIV positive. Has a tempestuous relationship with MARVIN. Tenor.
TRINA: 30s – Jewish, any ethnicity. Wife to Marvin, Mother to Jason. Charmingly neurotic in her effort to understand the conflicting feelings she has in the aftermath of her divorce. She consults Mendel, her husband’s psychiatrist and eventually marries him. Soprano/Belt.
MENDEL: 30s-40s – Jewish, any ethnicity. Marvin’s psychiatrist – who marries Trina and enters into the tumultuous world of her life with her son, her ex and her ex’s lover while struggling with his own feelings. High baritone.
CHARLOTTE: 30s – any ethnicity. One of the ‘lesbians from next door’ – Charlotte is a dedicated doctor alarmed by the mysterious illness that is killing her gay male patients. Tough, but extremely nurturing and very much in love with her partner, Cordelia. Alto/Mezzo.
CORDELIA: 30s – any ethnicity. The other ‘lesbian from next door’ – Cordelia is Dr. Charlotte’s partner – she runs her own kosher catering business, is very keen on making a nice home– but also wants to be useful and valued for her contribution to the world. High belt voice.

JAKE QUINN: 30s - One of a number of extras hired in the filming of a Hollywood movie being shot in rural Ireland, Charlie is the former owner of a failed video store. He has a movie script in his back pocket that he hopes will win some consideration from the movie people. He is relegated to a faceless background role, and his script is never even considered by anyone.
CHARLIE CONLON: 30s - One of a number of extras hired in the filming of a Hollywood movie being shot in rural Ireland, Jake has recently returned from a short and very unsuccessful stay in New York. Jake has the notion that he might become a film star. Instead, as an extra, he is relegated to digging turf as a “background bog man.” His attempts at winning the favors of the film’s female star by pretending to be a poet don’t go much better. He is a cousin of the tragic Sean Harkin.

CELIE: African-American, 20s-early 30s - Drives the story. Vulnerable, spirited, introverted, mischievous, seemingly passive but really not, has a deep, hard soul, believes that she is ugly, has a sense of humor which is sometimes wicked. She is an observer. Has a great belt singing voice with lots of soul, Mezzo-Soprano.
SHUG: African-American, 30s-40s - A popular singer, we meet her at death’s door. Confident, dynamic, powerful, irresistible, but has a frailty, like a wounded animal. Her vulnerability is shocking later on. She is loved by both Celie and Mister. Needs a knockout, Bessie Smith-style, bluesy singing voice. Alto.
MISTER: African-American, 30s-40s. Also known as ALBERT - Like Celie, a deep well. Masculine, strong presence, dominating, capable of brutal behavior but also a victim in his own way. Gets his power for free. Married to Celie, he abuses her. He is in love with Shug. He transforms into a kind man by the end of the story. Has a great singing voice. Baritone/Bass.
SOFIA: African-American, 30s - Powerful warrior woman. Great sense of humor, touching, vulnerable. Married to Harpo, she does not let anyone mistreat her. Has comic chops and a great belt singing voice. Alto.
HARPO: African-American, 20s - Mister’s vulnerable, confused, good-hearted son. Represents the new generation. He marries the independent Sofia. He spends much time trying to get Sofia to obey him the way Celie obeys his father, but he is unsuccessful, as Sofia is considerably stronger than he is. Harpo eventually establishes a juke joint in his first house and becomes Squeak’s lover. Later, he and Sofia reconcile. Through his love of Sofia, he learns how to love a woman. Has a great tenor singing voice. Tenor.
NETTIE: African-American, 20s - Celie’s younger sister. Adventuresome, feisty spirit, maternal, more educated and knowledgeable than Celie. She has a powerful bond with Celie. Forced by Mister to leave Celie, she starts a new life in Africa. Has a great belt singing voice with African influence. Alto.
SQUEAK: African-American, 20s - Harpo’s lover after Sofia leaves him. Although she is mistreated, she eventually undergoes a transformation, demanding to be called by her actual name, Mary Agnes, and starting a new life. She is of mixed ancestry. Attractive, sassy, fiery, strong-willed, unafraid to take anybody on, has a caring heart. Has comic chops and a great singing voice with belt and soprano capability.
ADULT SINGERS: Males and females, 20s – 50s, African-American. All types and singing ranges. All have fantastic singing voices and dynamic personalities. Various roles in the ensemble. The ensemble includes a trio known as Church Ladies, busybody types who are featured throughout the show.
