Equity actors for roles in Court Theatre's 2025-26 Season (see breakdown). All ages, ethnicities, and genders/non-binary artists are encouraged to audition. All roles will be understudied.

PREPARATION


Each actor will have 3 minutes in the room. This time is yours to share with us either a cut from a contemporary musical, a monologue or to just chat (or any combo as long as not over 3 min). Bring hard copy of HS/Res. We look forward to getting to know you!

VICTOR MASON [38-48, Black, male identified. Head of the family, an activist fighting against racism and advocating for Black people to return to Africa. Struggles to accept terms of his situation and clings to the ideals of Garveyism.]

ELLA [35-45, Black, female identified. Married to Vic and mother of 4 children. Conservative, prioritizing stability and keeping her family together.]

LESTER [20, Black male identified; Eldest son of Ella and Victor. Smart, ambitious, and hardworking.]

WANDA [18, Black female; eldest daughter of Ella and Victor. Reliable, opinionated, hardworking. Parents lean on her for financial support.]

CAROLINE [12, Black female identified; Youngest daughter of Ella and Vic. Progresses from childhood to adolescence.]

PHILLIP/COUNT COTTON [30-50 Black Male identified; A Garveyite ready to take action.]

DANIEL ROGERS [35-45, light skinned Black male; Married to Ella's sister Juanita. Believes in capitalism.]

JUANITA [35-45 light skinned; black female identified. Ella's sister and Daniel's wife. Into appearances, influence and feels entitled by her white blood.]

MARTHA BROOKS [45-60, light skinned Black, female identified; Mother of Ella and Juanita. Strong, outspoken and proud of her Dupree (white) blood.]

PERCY MASON [35-45, Black, male identified, Victor's brother. Military vet and family drunk.]

CLAUDINE [18 years old, Black female identified; Friend of Wanda's. Woman of opportunity rumored to be promiscuous.]

CLEO [15, daughter of Brian and Dawn, she or they; awkward yet outgoing teen. Spunky. A strong singer. A smart, raw voice that is surprised to hear itself - has a wild unhinged side when she rocks out.]

BRIAN [50, husband of Dawn, father of Cleo, he/him; Funny, likes structure and certainty, vulnerable. A strong singer and guitarist. Vocally, easy-going, sweet, confident and clear - James Taylor meets John Mayer.]

DAWN [50, wife of Brian, mother of Cleo, ex-girlfriend of Robin, she/her, Gay. Innate sense of humor. A strong singer. Tone is honest, emotion is right on the surface, not interested in sounding pretty, interested in communicating; punk rock performance artist - Kathleen Hannah meets Sondheim meets Lou Reed.]

MARGO [40-60, a gig-er, handheld instruments in the band, mediator, she or they; Easy humor. Vocally is brassy and comic - Mae West meets Patti LuPone.]

ROBIN [50, a butch dyke, mother of Josie, ex-girlfriend of Dawn, she/they; Gay. Has lived her whole life queer and never had a choice to pass as straight. A strong singer - Cool and clear with a hint of fire and grit - KD Lang meets Amy Ray.]

GINA [45-55, audience member, she/her; Loves the arts but has never been an artist. Can read a room and cares about people. Girl-next-door who gets stuff done. A strong singer - vocally reserved but surprisingly soulful - Roberta Flack meets Peggy Lee.]

JOSIE [17, daughter of Robin, she or they; Cool, adaptable and resilient. Chooses to be in the moment. Vocally is delighted by their own voice - finding their fire as they go - Taylor Swift meets Selena Gomez.]

MISS JULIE

Directed by Gabrielle Randle-Bent

MISS JULIE [25, fresh off broken engagement, she makes shameless advances on her valet, Jean. Simultaneously disgusted by and drawn to men. Wants to enslave men and also desires her own fall.]

JOHN [30, the manor's valet. Initially coarse, pretends to be gallant when seducing Miss Julie but his cruelty is revealed. Suffers from class envy. Simultaneously idealizes and degrades Julie eventually reveling in her ruin.]

CHRISTINE [35, the manor's cook and Jean's fiancé. A gossip who wholeheartedly believes in the class system.]
