This play is in part about the experience of living across and between identities. As such, the playwright is open to many iterations of casting in regards to actors’ identities. We anticipate small rewrites that take into account each actors’ lived experience and unique identity. We encourage anyone who identifies with a multiethnic experience to audition for TORO and ANDREA.
JUAN, Male, mid/late 20s. Hispanic or part-Hispanic. Speaks some Spanish. An aspiring DJ. Confident, charismatic, quick. Controlling, strange, hot-tempered. Doesn't overthink things. A good businessman.
TORO, Male, mid/late 20s. Was popular in high school but has since become insecure. Conflict averse, a people-pleaser. Athletic, formerly a piano prodigy, hard-working. Ashamed, self-hating, self destructive. An over-thinker. (Piano and skateboard abilities, a plus.)
ANDREA, Female, mid/late 20s. Speaks some Spanish. Mellow, calm and confident - or at least is able to convincingly perform these traits. Secret streaks of neuroticism and eccentricity. A pot head. A kindergarten teacher.
CARL/TICA, Male, 60s, Juan’s dad. White. An American who has lived most of his life abroad. Friendly, Charismatic, Non-Threatening. Executive director of a real-estate consulting agency in Madrid. / A golden retriever. 80+ in dog years. Sad, dying, lonely, exhausted.
