SEEKING

TimeLine Theatre Company is holding auditions for its 2018/19 season. Productions include: A SHAYNA MAIDEL, MASTER CLASS, CARDBOARD PIANO, TOO HEAVY FOR YOUR POCKET TimeLine is seeking adult actors of all genders and ethnicities. We encourage all actors of all identities to apply for roles for they view themselves as most fit. See breakdown for details

PREPARATION

Actors should prepare one monologue of their choice that lasts no more than 2 minutes. Or one monologue, 1 minute long, along with one art song or Aria, 1 minute long. Be sure to bring a headshot and resume and please include both a phone number and email address on your resume.

ROSE WEISS: early 20s, female, Polish American, Jewish, speaks little Yiddish, Mordechai's daughter, Lusia's little sister

MORDECHAI WEISS: 60-70, male, Polish American, Jewish, speaks Yiddish and English, Rose and Lusia's father

LUSIA WEISS PECHENIK: Late 20s, female, Polish, Jewish, speaks Yiddish and English, Mordechai's daughter, Rose's sister

DUVID PECHENIK: 20-30s, Male, Polish, Jewish, speaks Yiddish and English, Lusia's husband.

HANNA: 14 - late 20s, female, Polish, speaks Yiddish and English, a childhood friend of Lusia. She is a rebel. She's fun and charming. She's strong and she inspires.

MAMA: various ages, female, Polish, speaks Yiddish and English, Mordechai's wife, mother of Rose and Lusia. Believes strongly in the will of God and tries to prevent her daughter from losing hope and from losing a sense of where she came from

MARIA CALLAS: Already Cast

SOPHIE DE PALMA (First Soprano): Female, 20s; soprano. She is perky and in awe of Callas, desperately hoping to please her. However, she is extremely unprepared and naïve about the hard work it will take to become an accomplished opera singer.

SHARON GRAHAM (Second Soprano): Female, 20-30s. An operatic singer with a true gift. She is strong-willed and not afraid to challenge Callas, though she takes guidance from Callas well.

ANTHONY TONY CANDOLINO (Tenor): Male, 20s to early 30s. He is flirtatious and confident, even cocky. He is also niave about what it will take for him to become an opera singer.

MANNY WEINSTOCK (Accompanist): He is a talented pianist.

STAGEHAND: Male, age open. He is practical and straight-forward. He does not find his surroundings or Callas especially impressive.

CARDBOARD PIANO by Hansol Jung

CHRIS: female, American, Ethnicity unspecified - 16, the daughter of missionaries in Uganda who is in love with Adiel, the two are flirtatious and joyful when together in Part 1 / 30 and a visitor in Part 2

ADIEL / RUTH: 16, female, Acholi, Ugandan and in love with Chris, the two are flirtatious and joyful when together/ 29, Female, Bugandan, Ugandan, a pastor's wife

PIKA / FRANCIS: 13, male, Acholi, nationality unspecified. He is an escaped child soldier, feels guilty and like he can never atone for the atrocities he was forced to commit / 22, Male, Acholi, Ugandan, a local kid

SOLDIER / PAUL: early 20s, male, Acholi, Nationality unspecified, a soldier / 27, Male, Bugandan, Ugandan, and the pastor at the church that was built by Chris' parents.

TOO HEAVY FOR YOUR POCKET by Jiréh Breon Holder

First rehearsal – 3/19/19 Previews begin – 4/24/19 Opens – 5/2/19 Closes – 6/30/19 Possible Extension Until - 7/28/19

BOWZIE BRANDON: male, 19, African American, Evelyn's husband, bosom buddy of Tony. He is a working-class man who got a scholarship to Fisk University where he meets a group of activists and, against his wife's advice and under the risk of being kicked out of his school, he joins them and decides to become a Freedom Rider himself.

TONY CARTER: male, early 20s, African American, Sally's Husband, construction worker, and an old friend of Bowzie

SALLY-MAE CARTER: female, early 20s, African American, Tony's wife, a graduate of beauty school, sweet, and pregnant. She encourages Bowzie's turn towards activism.

EVELYN CARTER: female, early 20s, African American, Bowzie's wife who is a singer and a housewife who is worried about Bowzie's turn towards activism as it puts him at risk of getting his college scholarship taken away and, therefore, losing a life-changing opportunity.
