BUDDY-THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY

While it is desirable that cast members possess some combination of these talents, it is not prohibitive in any sense if they don't. The show can be built around the abilities and talents of those involved.
Seeking
BUDDY HOLLY
Singer-songwriter and star from Lubbock, Texas. Buddy is intelligent, charismatic, 6ft or over, preferably under 25. Must play guitar, sing and act and have a feel for Rock 'n' Roll. Must possess some serious star potential and have a desire to live as a rock 'n' roll superstar every night.
JOE B MAULDIN
Double Bass player from Lubbock, Texas. Preferably under 25. Serious, square young man with musical ability. Must be able to sing and act.
JERRY ALLISON
Drummer, preferably under 25 from Lubbock, Texas. Good looking, irrepressible cheeky humor with musical ability. Must be able to act. The ability to sing is preferred but not prohibitive.
MARIA ELENA HOLLY
Attractive, under 25 of Hispanic-American extraction. Classy and well-educated. Must be able to sing. Musical ability an advantage but not prohibitive.
J.P. RICHARDSON - THE BIG BOPPER
A former DJ, he is a Texan with an irrepressible larger-than-life character. 6ft and above, with the ability to command the stage on his own as a single performer. His key song is "Chantilly Lace". Must be able to act and should possess a comedic flair. The ability to play a musical Instrument an advantage but not prohibitive.
RITCHIE VALENS
Good looking, under 25 and of Hispanic-American extraction. Ritchie Is an attractive, handsome boy with serious charisma, a dedicated eye for the ladies, and the ability to hold the stage in his own right. His key song is "La Bamba". Must be able to act.
HIPOCKETS DUNCAN
Under 40, an exuberant hometown radio DJ from Lubbock, Texas, with an air of authority and a keen sense of humor. Must be a strong actor. The ability to sing and/or play a musical instrument an advantage but not prohibitive.
NORMAN PETIY
Under 40, a record producer from Clovis, New Mexico, with a businesslike manner and a love of making records. Must be a strong actor. The ability to sing and/or play a musical instrument an advantage but not prohibitive.
VI PETIY
Under 40, the wife of Norman with a heart of gold. VI must be able to sing and act, and have keyboards ability, with a good sense of humor.
APOLLO PERFORMER
Male of African-American extraction with the ability to hold the stage on his own. Key song "Shout". Must have good comic timing and be able to act. It is
preferable to have the ability to play a musical instrument but not prohibitive.

THE COMPANY
Must be able to sing and have ability to play a multitude of roles and/or musical instruments. We define the show around the talent that is available.
Experience and training are not necessary but ability is a prerequisite for the show

RIFF
A spritely, quick-tempered leader. He seeks to eliminate the Sharks and establish his own gang's dominance . Tony's best friend, he is eventually murdered by Bernardo.

TONY
A romantic young man and former leader of the Jets, he has found a new lifestyle now. Tony finds himself violently torn between his friendships and love. Falls in love to Maria and meets an untimely death.

BERNARDO
A proud, strong, handsome Puerto Rican man. Bernardo seeks to carve out territory as a sense of identity for he and his friends. Maria's brother and Anita's boyfriend. Leader of the Sharks .

MARIA
A hopeless romantic and innocent young girl. She falls in love with Tony and finds herself at the center of the violent conflict between the two gangs. Bernardo's sister. Puerto Rican.

ANITA
Feisty and assertive. She dispenses "older sister" advice to Maria and tries to shield her from the dangers of the gangs. Bernardo's girlfriend and Maria's friend. Puerto Rican.

CHINO
An angry and, at times, naive Shark who turns murderous and vengeful. Suitor to Maria and friend of Bernardo's.

ANYBODYS
A spunky tomboy who is desperate to become a member of the Jets. The other Jets mock her for her ambitions, but generally appreciate her company. Full of energy and heart.

DOC
The owner of the candy store where the Jets hang out. He tries to guide the Jets youthful angst and provides a safe haven for Tony. Old fashioned and wise in his ways.
Male, 60-75 yrs old Speaking Role
SCHRANK
A local police detective frustrated by the ongoing violence between the Jets and Sharks. Blunt, brash, and unapologetic .

KRUPKE
The local beat cop. He has no patience for the gangs conflict and tries to keep tensions from errupting between them. Regularly mocked by the local gangs. Male, 30-60 yrs old

Zeke /Cowardly Lion
(male, 20s-40s)-. Baritone/Tenor (Range B flat to F). Farmhand and friend of Dorothy in Kansas wh_o turns into Lion in Oz.
Hickory /Tin Man (male, 20s-40s)
Baritone/Tenor (Range B flat to G). Farmhand and friend of Dorothy who turns into Tin Man in Oz.
Hunk/Scarecrow
(male or female, 20s-40s)-Baritone/Tenor (Range B flat to F sharp). Farmhand and friend of Dorothy who turns into Scarecrow in Oz.
Auntie Em/Glinda
(female, 30s-50s)-Soprano (Range G to C). Em is Dorothy 's Aunt who is hard-working and sturdy and although she is extremely busy, she cares very much about Dorothy. Glinda is the good witch . She is beautiful and the protector of the Munchkins and Dorothy.
Uncle Henry/Emerald City Guard
(male, 30s-50s)-(Range B flat to E flat) Henry is Dorothy 's Uncle. He is an honest hardworking man who owns a small farm. He is kind and also cares a great deal about Dorothy. The Emerald City Guard guards the entrance to Oz and is a bit arrogant in wielding his power , but is a softy at his core.
Professor Marvel/Wizard of Oz
(male or female, 40s-60s)-Marvel is a friendly traveling salesman who convinces Dorothy to go back home to her family after she runs away and turns into the powerful ruler of the Emerald City. He appears as the Wizard in Oz. Non-singing role.
Ms. Almira Gulch/Wicked Witch of the West
(female, 30s-60s)-A twisted , selfish woman who owns most of the Kansas town where Henry, Em, and Dorothy live. In Oz she is the bad witch, green and mean. Dorothy 's enemy. Non-singing rnle.
Oz Chorus
this chorus will be used to fill multiple roles, including the three crows, the three trees, Oz beauticians , Oz maintenance men, Oz polishers , Oz manicurists, Winkies (the Wicked Witch 's slaves/soldiers, including the Winkie General) and Flying Monkeys (including Nikko, the Flying Monkey General)

Seeking:
Deloris Van Cartier
An aspiring performer, trying to find both fame and a place in the world. V/hen forced to hide in the convent, she initially refuses to embrace her new lifestyle but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed, and sassy, but ultimately caring.
Female, 25-35 yrs old Range: E3 - F#5
Mother Superior
The head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings .
Female, 50-70 yrs old Range: 03 - E5
Sister Mary Robert
A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken, but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life.
Female, 16-25 yrs old Range: F#3 - A5
Sister Mary Patrick
A nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable.
Female, 35-50 yrs old Range: G3-E6
Sister Mary Lazarus
A nun of the convent and the head of the choir. Rather deadpan and the least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris's soul music.
Female, 50-70 yrs old Range: F3 - 84
Monsignor O'hara
One of the heads of the convent. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood.
Male, 45-60 yrs old Range: E3 - G4
Curtis
A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris's boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence.
Male, 30-40 yrs old Range: A2 - Ab4
Eddie Souther
The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. He still yearns for Deloris after all these years, and dreams of being her hero.

TJ
Curtis's nephew and one of his thugs. Deft and cognizant of the fact, constantly in a state of ignorant bliss.
