BREAKDOWN
GYPSY
Momma Rose: Female Identifying, 35-55, any race/ethnicity. The ultimate stage mother. Lives her life vicariously through her two daughters, whom she's put into show business. She is loud, brash, pushy and single- minded, but at times doting and charming. Her voice is the ultimate powerful Broadway belt. Minimal dance but moves well. Comic timing. Strong Mezzo/Alto with good low notes and belt.
Herbie: Male Identifying, 35-55, any race/ethnicity. Agent for Rose's children and Rose's boyfriend and a possible husband number 4. He has a heart of gold but also has the power to defend the people he loves with strength. Minimum dance. Baritone.
Dainty June: Female Identifying, 18+ to play 16-24, any race/ethnicity. Baby June as a teenager. The older she gets, the more frustrated she becomes with Momma’s domination. Strong Alto. Can belt a song and dance well. The ability to do the splits and twirl a baton a big plus, but not a requirement.
Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee: Female Identifying, 18-26, any race/ethnicity. Young Louise as a teenager, who grows up to be Gypsy Rose Lee. Still pushed aside by Momma Rose in favor of June, until she becomes her mother's new project. Minimum actual dance but has very strong movement skills. Appears as both an awkward teen and a sophisticated woman. Comfortable with the profession burlesque dancing. Mezzo.
Tulsa Male Identifying, 18+ to play 16-25, any race/ethnicity. Boy-next-door type. Strives to break out of the troupe with an act of his own. Extremely strong dancer in all styles of show dance including tap. Good singer, charming, very athletic and handsome young man. High Baritone.
JERSEY BOYS
TOMMY DEVITO Male, 30-40; strong tenor/baritone voice, comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; ability to play guitar a strong plus; funny; a wise-guy; a natural-born leader with appealing bad-boy quality.
FRANKIE VALLI Male, 20-35; 5’9 or shorter; a strong tenor with a sweet and strong falsetto. Sings in the style of Frankie Valli; strong tenor to high A or Bb plus strong falsetto up to treble G; charismatic and charming; has a gritty side as well as a polished veneer; very comfortable with four-part harmonies.
NICK MASSI Male, 30-40; strong bass/baritone voice, very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; a quiet dreamer who longs for life after The Four Seasons; understated with a dead-pan quality.
BOB GAUDIO Male, 20-35; strong tenor/baritone voice; very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; an intelligent, sensitive, and introspective musical prodigy.
