BREAKDOWN
THE STING is based on the 1973 movie of the same title.
SEEKING:
GONDORFF
Henry Gondorff is a sly, handsome master of the long con who has seen better days. He is sharp, sarcastic, unflappable, always the smartest guy in the room. When we meet him, he is in a drunken state of semi-retirement due to a con gone wrong, but Hooker convinces him to get back into the game. Male. Strong actor. Strong comedy. Thrilling high baritone voice up to G. Caucasian. 40s-50s.
HOOKER
Jonny Hooker is young black grifter from the streets of Joliet Illinois. He is an expert at the various forms of street con, but has never challenged himself to move beyond that. He is cocky, good looking, irresponsible, infuriating. His imprudent behaviour leads to the death of his beloved mentor Luther, and sets him on a journey to avenge his murder. Male. Strong singing. Strong comedy. African-American. 30s-50s – ROLE CAST
LUTHER
Luther Coleman is an older black grifter, Hooker’s partner in crime on the streets of Joliet. He is a veteran of the art of the con, and well respected in the community. He is affable, fatherly and dedicated to his craft. When news of his brutal murder rips through the community, the cons rally behind Hooker and Gondorff in their efforts to punish those responsible. Although he dies at the beginning of the story, Luther is present throughout as a ghostly MC who leads us through the narrative. Male. Strong signing – tenor – should sing up to G#.. Strong dancing. Strong comedy. African-American. 50s-60s.
KID TWIST
Kid Twist is an older, veteran con man, who has worked with every grifter in three states. He is like the casting agent for the long con in Chicago. He is an excellent character actor, and plays a crucial role in the big con. Male. Strong acting. Strong comedy. Caucasian. 50s-60s
SINGLETON
J.J. Singleton is an extremely bright, fast talking con man and con aficionado. He is well versed in the history and mechanics of every known con, and invented a few of them. He is like the playwright of the long con in Chicago. Very detail oriented, very precise. Male. Strong acting. Strong comedy. Any ethnicity. 40s—50s.

LONEGAN
Gangster businessman – ROLE CAST
