Breakdown

Sometime in the future, Dolores and Silver are living their married life within the constraints and norms of a new world order. In an act of what seems like pure generosity, Dolores secretly opens their home to a stranger in need; but will she come to regret it? Can her actions have an impact or is it just too late? A bold world premiere thriller, The Ruins of Civilization explores our need for free will and connection, even in a world on the brink of extinction.

Seeking:

DOLORES
Female- 38: Silver's second wife. Worked at a publishing company, where she met Silver. She now spends most of her time at home lonely and isolated. She is fragile and thin-skinned with a tendency to be overly sensitive. A deeply empathetic woman, she struggles to understand the rules governing her society. She is afraid of the world around her.

SILVER
Male-55: An author with a very domineering personality. One always knows when he's in the room. While Silver projects an alpha male front, there is an inner-vulnerability that exists underneath. Silver is a perfectionist who values routine and security. He is pragmatic, political and has strong views, which he is happy to share and believes are right.

MARIA
Female-31: A refugee from an impoverished nation, Maria is traumatized, intelligent, angry, and contained. She has left behind a whole life, those she loves, and to an extent has shut down in order to manage any reaction to that. In her former country, she worked as a lawyer but after immigrating, she has been relegated to a profession that is beneath her. She is a survivor, who doesn't like living by the rules.

JOY
Female-50: Character actress. A matronly civil service worker and a natural care giver. She is a proud woman with strong arms and strong convictions. While Joy is kind, she is also no-nonsense. She is not inquistive, which isn't to say she doesn't have her own moral compass, or her own feelings and reflections on the world around her. She has simply made practical decisions to find her role in society and pursue it to the best of her ability.
