MYSTIC CONVERSATIONS:
SYNOPSIS: Inspired by real-life events, a Midwestern mother faces a shocking revelation when her young son’s ability to see the spirit of his unborn brother is confirmed by a mystic who works in a salon. Caught between truth and illusion, the family must choose whether to embrace his secret identity as a psychic or deny it.
THE MOM (Woman, 40s-50s) She is warm, funny and eager to learn new things, yet she is sometimes held back by old habits. She’s very curious and engaged by the discovery of her son’s ability to see spirits. Optimistic. She will fight for her beliefs.
THE DAD (Man, 40s-50s, 5’10” ish) He is logical, practical and often detached from daily family occurrences. Adverse to change. A mainstream professional who is not open to his son’s newfound abilities and is closed off to alternative ideas.
THE SISTER/AS CAST (Girl, 18+ to play 15) A smart, socially busy teen with her own sensitivities. Though she does not like conflict, she often playfully antagonizes her younger brother behind their parents' back.
SPIRIT CHILD (Boy, 18+ to play 16, 6’ tall) He is tall, athletic; a spirit teen child who communicates telepathically with his little brother. He enjoys humor and is elated (beyond words) that the family has become aware of his presence. Non-Speaking Role.
THE MYSTIC - CAST (Woman, 40s-70s) Highly perceptive to the paranormal world. She uses her abilities to unofficially counsel others in a very direct and blunt way.
THE BOY - CAST (Boy, 10) He is clever, insightful, sarcastic, affectionate and mature beyond his years but still a little kid. A “normal” boy with paranormal perceptions. He hates school, loves video games and makes on-point, wise comments that silence adults.
