Breakdown

Winner of the 2012 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, both serpentine crime drama and haunting sci-fi thriller, THE NETHER explores the consequences of living out private dreams in a new virtual wonderland. A young detective uncovers a disturbing brand of entertainment triggering a battle over technology and human desire.

Seeking:

Sims/Papa
40 - 50+. A successful businessman who spends his time in the perfectly landscaped garden and Victorian house in the virtual world of the Hideaway where he lives with children such as Iris

Morris
18+. A young female detective who brings in “Sims” and “Doyle” for investigation about the Hideaway, a virtual world created to live out bizarre fantasies in the Nether (the Internet). She is determined to find reason to incarcerate the men.

Doyle
40s-50s. A middle-aged science teacher, male, who has grown so addicted to the Hideaway that he wants to live there forever.

Iris
A shining little virtual girl who loves and respects “Sims/Papa”. Mature 10-13 year old

Woodnutt
Male, 30s. A fresh-faced new guest to the Hideaway.
