SEEKING

Equity actor/singers for roles in THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (see breakdown).



PREPARATION

Please prepare a ballad from the standard Broadway repertoire or Gilbert and Sullivan repertory (no Sondheim, please). Be prepared, if asked, to perform a brief monologue.

All actors must wear double thickness masks in holding room, must sit at least three feet apart from next actor, and must wear mast at all times except when actually singing in audition room. No singing or warming up will be allowed in bathrooms, hallway, stairwells, etc. Actors must warm up outside studio, on the street or at home.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.

BREAKDOWN

GRINGOIRE - Appears age 25-40 (Bari Tenor): A poet, playwrite, amiable but unlucky. A bit of a schmuck,

ESMERALDA- Age 20-35 (Lyric Soprano) - Slender, beautiful, naive, strong.

QUASIMODO - Age 40-70 (Bass-Bari): Medium build to hefty. Capable of tenderness and other strong emotions.

CAPTAIN PHOEBUSJ - Age 30-45 (Lyric Tenor): Medium build. Handsome. Vain. Attractive to women. A serial womanizer.

MADAME GUDULE - Age 50-70 (Strong Mezzo): Heavier build, psychotic at times. Hates Bohemians. Can be tender. Mother of Esmeralda.

CLOPIN - Age 45-60 (Strong bari): King of Bohemians. Substantial build, commanding, sometimes cruel, sometimes with sense of humor.

FLEUR DE LYS - Age 20-35 (Lyric Soprano): Slender, lovely, snobbish since she is wealthy, may be blonde or red-head, sometimes vicious.

DOM CLAUDE FROLLO - Age 50-75 (Bari-Tenor): Medium or strong build. Obsessed by Esmeralda. Can be cunning and cruel.

CHARMOULOUE - Age 50-75 (Bass-Bari): Tall, frightening, obedient to Dom Claude, often cruel

MADAM GONDELAURIER - Age 55-75 (Mezzo): Tallish, wealthy mother of Fleur, unctuous, sometimes ridiculous (Doubles as MADAME FALOURDEL in Act II)

GERALDINE - Age 40-60 (Mezzo with Belt voice): Tough, street-wise, wife of Clopin. Sense of humor

COPPENOLE - Age 40-60 (Bari-tenor): Any build, amiable, clever, sometimes verbal and obedient (Triples as TRISTAN and JACQUES)

SUZETTE - Age 25-40 (Mezzo or Soprano): Attractive, vivacious, sometimes dangerous, can move. (Doubles as a town's person in Act II)

Requirement for proof of vaccination/negative test.

Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, nonmembers, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, COVID Safety Managers, etc.) will be required to undergo a symptom check and provide one of the following prior to entry into the venue:

Proof of full vaccination. “Fully vaccinated,” as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine.

Proof of a negative PCR test result taken no earlier than 48 hours prior to entry into the audition venue.
(OR)
Proof of two negative antigen test results (e.g., the first taken the night before and the second taken no less than 2 hours) prior to entry into the venue.

Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks and respirators (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. Everyone in the holding room and audition room will always wear a face covering as described above, except for the actor when they are actively auditioning. The time spent unmasked should be as minimal as possible. Face coverings must be worn correctly (covering the nose and mouth). If the risk level for New York County is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 24 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified if the auditions must be postponed or cancelled.

We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

The holding room is 912 square feet and can accommodate no more than 25 individuals at a time.
The audition room is 544 square feet and can accommodate no more than 5 individuals at a time.
