SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in THE FALLING SEASON (see breakdown).

All stage managerial positions have been filled.

All actors should be able to move. Hip Hop and Freestyle are a plus. The project features 80s/90s “boom bap” rap, R&B, and gospel.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief cut of an 80s/90s boom bap rap song. Actors auditioning for NANA/MISS EFFY should prepare a brief cut of a traditional gospel song. An accompanist will be provided. Bring a stapled copy of your headshot and resume.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

The audition room can accommodate no more than 52 individuals at a time.

SEEKING:

AVIS WASHINGTON (Male, 17-19, Black) Avis is the family’s golden boy. He is book smart, and not into violence. He’s an ordinary person with extraordinary possibilities. Strong rapper. Raps and move well.

FATZ (Male, 20-25, Italian American or Latino.) A big guy who loves to eat. Brooklyn raised. Avis’s best friend. Fun, quick witted, and street smart with a sense of humor. He is a solid, standup guy, a rock. Strong Rapper and R&B singer.

ROCK (Male, 38-40, Black) A crack dealer who runs the neighborhood of Bed-Stuy. He’s the boss with a powerful presence and people do what he says. Has dreams of building an empire. He could have played football in high school. Lean, mean, and tough. Strong Rapper and RnB singer.

GUNNA (Male, 23-25, Black) Rock’s right-hand man. He’s from and of the streets. Tough and threatening - not above shooting anybody but defers to Rock. AUTHENTIC RAPPER.

LISA (Female, 19-23, Black) Rock’s sister. She’s an authentic Brooklyn hood girl with a nasty attitude. Will do what it takes to get what she wants. Confident, cunning and has a big personality. Strong rapper.

JUNE (Female, 17-19, Black) Pretty, smart, down to earth and a star student. She’s the girl-next-door who Avis goes to for advice. Avis and June have a crush on each other. She’s the kind of girl you’d want to settle down with. A dreamer who can accomplish anything she puts her mind to. Strong Rapper and RnB singer.

OFFICER DENO (Male, 38-40, Black) Went to high school with Rock and Keith. They have a lot of history. Calm, protective of Avis and Avis’ mom. Undercover police/detective. The voice of reason. He can be tough, when needed.

NANA, OR MISS EFFY (Female, 60-65, Black) Avis’ grandmother. Matriarch of the family. Mature. Wise. Loving. Strong. A devout woman. She is the rock of the family. Sings Gospel and R&B singing.

KEITH (Male, 38-40, Black) Avis’ uncle. CAST.

MISS FULTON (Female, 50-55, Black) Enthusiastic SAT prep teacher. Inspiring. Warm. Avis and June trust her. CAST.

KEEFY/COP/CORNER BOY (Male, 17-19, Mixed Race) CAST.

BOOGIE THE BOOKIE, CORNER BOY #1, COP. CAST.

KEKE/PREGNANT GIRL (Female, 17+ to play younger, Mixed Race) KEKE: Sibling of Keefy. Daughter of Keith. PREGNANT GIRL: Struggles with feelings of not belonging after getting pregnant. CAST.

MISS EVIE/GIRL #1 (Female, Black) MISS EVIE (40-42): Avis’ Mom. GIRL #1 (18-20) Supportive student. CAST.

GIRL #2/CORNER BOY #2 (Female, 18-20, Black, Mixed Race, or Latina) CAST.
