BREAKDOWN
SYNOPSIS:
Marge and Tiffany have been married for 7 years, and for the entirety of that time Tiffany has been the sole subject of Marge’s booming photography career. So when Tiffany suddenly declares she no longer wants to be photographed, their quaint New England life is turned upside down. Tiffany absconds on a month-long hiking trip to think, but in the process meets Ike, a bumbling Southern man who she can’t seem to out-pace. Meanwhile back at Warren College, Marge starts a small war with a precocious student named Bella, but then unwittingly finds herself drawn to the younger woman’s passions. Separated by weather phenomena and terrain, Tiffany and Marge try to drown out the noise of their present loneliness by clinging to memories of the once vibrant tug of their desires. On one hand a play about love as it ages, and on the other a play about the complex relationship between white bodies and Black bodies in intimate spaces, THE CLIMB dares audiences to guess what will become of this union. Will it crack beneath the weight of choices made too many years ago, or simply falter when juxtaposed with the promise of fresh adoration?
SEEKING:
MARGE. Female, 41. White. A photographer with the stature of Sally Mann or Diane Arbus, a professor. Big, magnetic personality.
TIFFANY. Female, 30. Black. Marge’s wife and subject. Also the manager of an outdoors shop. Guarded, giving, hyper smart but maybe doesn’t know it.
IKE. Male, 29. White. An odd jobs kind of guy, real charmer in his own way, lost.
BELLA. Female, 19-20. Any ethnicity. A student. earnest, a bit green, words just fall out of her mouth.
