Breakdown
SYNOPSIS: THE BELLE OF BELFAST
Belfast, 1985- Anne Malloy, a 17-year-old orphaned by a terrorist's bomb, turns, like many who suffered, to the comforts of her local parish. However, her passion is not for the Church, but for her confessor and confidant, Father Reilly, forcing both of them to re-evaluate where one finds solace and faith during a time of conflict.
AUDITIONS: Prepare a short monologue w/a Northern Irish accent
SEEKING:
Anne Malloy: 17 years old Anne lost her parents in a senseless attack that made her question everything she grew up believing. She masks her vulnerability and rage with bravura, sexuality and sharp wit. She is a time bomb waiting to go off.
Ben Reilly: A 30 – 45 year old, entered the Church to please his parents. He’s a great priest and leader- and wants to save Anne Malloy from her cynicism and lack of faith.
Dermott Behan: An older man and best mate to Reilly, they live together in the rectory. A priest is the only thing he thought he could be, and he knows he isn't a very good priest. Lost in the bottle and poisoned by partisan politics, he is trying to make sense of what is left of his life. (THIS ROLE IS ON OFFER)
Ciara Murphy: Anne's best friend also 17, insecure, devout and maybe chubby, she envies Anne’ confidence and looks. A product of war-torn Belfast, she'll likely never leave.
Emma Malloy: Anne's great Aunt, an obsessive Catholic and heavy drinker is Anne’s caretaker, though it is Anne who take care of her. She will confess her venial sins to anyone wearing a collar in Northern Ireland. (THIS ROLE IS ON OFFER)
