Wheelock Family Theatre at Boston University, as an Equal Opportunity Employer, recognizes the need for expanding the participation of artists who have been historically underrepresented on stage due to race, ethnicity, disability, gender expression, and sexual orientation. We endeavor to cast these individuals in roles where race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or the presence or absence of a disability is not germane and in which their identities align with those of a character.
Most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns. However limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.
Wheelock Family Theatre pledges to produce and celebrate theater that is representative of, and centers characters as well as actors who share the diverse and intersectional identities as those that exist within our audiences.
Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide.
Gomez Addams: Hispanic, Latine. The loving and charismatic father of the Addams family. He is a suave man of Spanish descent who adores his wife and children and takes immense pride in his heritage and really hates to lie.
Morticia Addams: The confident and mysterious Addams family matriarch. She loves her family and believes strongly in family traditions and having complete and total honesty.
Wednesday Addams: 15 to 18. The eldest Addams child, who has her father’s heart and her mother’s sensibility. The love she feels for her boyfriend, Lucas, pushes her to evaluate what is “strange” and what is “normal.”
Pugsley Addams: 13 to 17. The youngest Addams child, who is fond of being tortured by his sister and is finding his way in the world, especially as he and his sister grow older.
Alice Beineke: The ever poetic mother to Lucas and wife of Mal. She puts on a facade of someone who is reserved but is secretly full of passion and desire.
Mal Beineke: The uptight father to Lucas and husband of Alice. His cynicism and conservative nature is revealed to be a product of his own expectations of what he believes it means to be a father and husband.
Lucas Beineke: 15 to 18. The hopeful romantic son of Alice & Mal and new boyfriend of Wednesday. His optimism and hopefulness keep him fighting for who he loves despite all the obstacles they encounter.
Uncle Fester: The loveable and highly incorrigible narrator of the show, Fester’s love for his family is only matched by his love for the moon.
Grandma: The 102 year old feisty mother (maybe?) of Gomez who values a good joke just as much as she does a good potion.
Lurch: The undead family butler and a man of few words with an unmistakable commanding presence.
Addams Ancestors: The ancestors of Addams across the generations, from prehistoric times to the not so recent past, this motley group carry the story forward as active bystanders. Strong actors, singers and dancers. Seeking actors 13+ for 8 ancestor tracks.
