For the Musical please prepare a short song in the style of John Denver (folk, country, soft rock) and if you play a musical instrument please bring it with you. Actors may accompany themselves on their instrument. There will be a piano in the audition room and an accompanist present (only on 4/10). For Non-Musical plays please prepare a comedic monologue. Also, please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the
extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and
dressing rooms.

Cast Members (6): Any Gender, 18-70. Any Ethnicity. This musical will be performed by an ensemble
of six performers, many of whom may play one or more of the following instruments: Guitar, Bass,
Piano, Fiddle, Banjo, Harmonica, Accordion, Dobro, Lap Steel, etc. Playing a musical instrument is a
plus, but not a must. This is an ensemble cast where all actors will sing and dance/move well.
TRACK 1: Any Gender, 30s - 50s. Any Ethnicity. Multiple characters male and female. Mostly plays
Mr. Trundle, the new mayor of Popcorn Falls. A sincere man with a big heart. Recently divorced and
recovered alcoholic. Thought he could hide out in a tiny little town to pull his life back together, but
instead is forced to confront his inner demons. Doubles as many other characters including, Hans, a
German foreign exchange student who now works at the local funeral parlor, and Mr. Upmall, an
octogenarian who has always dreamed of performing onstage.
TRACK 2: Any Gender, 30s – 50s. Any Ethnicity. Multiple characters male and female. Mostly plays
Joe, the town custodial engineer. Joe is nervous because his wife is pregnant with their third set of
twins and their town is about to go bankrupt. Doubles as many characters, including Austin, the not-
very-bright-but-eager-to-please sheriff of Popcorn Falls. He would like everyone to think he’s smarter
and more important than he actually is. Ms. Parker, the very theatrical town librarian. She speaks
with a mid-Atlantic accent and acts as if she’s about to step into the role of Amanda Wingfield. Mrs. Stepp, the oversexed, hardboiled middle school teacher who is always out on the prowl. Floyd, the
owner of the local lumberyard who lost half his arm in a freak accident involving a telephone pole and
a Mexican stripper. Becky, a very sweet lost soul, who just moved back to Popcorn Falls. She was
once in love with Joe.
Nick: Male, 20s – 30s. A young marketing professional, living in Manhattan. Nick is intelligent,
energetic, and very likeable. Visits both sets of Grandparents in Hoboken, NJ every week for Sunday
dinner.
Caitlin: Female, 20s – 30s. A nurse. Charming and sincere. Caitlin is set up on a blind date with Nick
by his Grandparents.
Frank: ROLE IS CAST. 70s – 80s. Nick's maternal grandfather, a man of roughly eighty. An
immigrant from Italy, Frank understands the importance of family.
Aida: ROLE IS CAST. 70s. Nick's maternal grandmother, a woman in her seventies. Aida equates
care and food with love, family, and home.
Nunzio: ROLE IS CAST. 70s. Nick's paternal grandfather, a man in his seventies. A true romantic
who has dealt with horrible loss. Nunzio carries with him a burden that he refuses to share.
Emma: ROLE IS CAST. 70s. Nick's paternal grandmother, a woman in her seventies. She found true
love with Nunzio and wants nothing more than for her Nicky to have what she has.
