Rosalind — Daughter to the banished Duke, best friend to Celia, who goes on a journey of self discovery and finds romantic love in Arden. Witty, wears her emotions on her sleeve, and has a flare for the dramatic. Uses mainly she/her pronouns, but changes pronouns when in disguise in Arden.
Celia — The heir to the dukedom, daughter to Duke Frederick, and best friend to Rosalind. A pragmatist with a great sense of humor. Finds romantic love in Arden, despite her skepticism.
Duke Senior — The banished Duke who has found a new lease on life by living in Arden away from the court. Rosalind’s parent.
Duke Frederick — The new Duke, very concerned with public perception after taking over the Dukedom.
Orlando — The youngest of three sons of a nobleman, Sir Roland de Boys. He is stubborn, a romantic, and craves making his own way in the world.
Adam — A loyal servant in the household of Sir Roland de Boys, who gives Orlando their entire retirement savings to support Orlando safely leaving town.
Oliver — The oldest son of Sir Roland de Boys. He undergoes a transformation in Arden and falls head over heels in love with Celia.
Le Beau — An aristocrat in the court of Duke Frederick, loves gossip, has an intuitive sense of what’s really going on and ability to read people.
Touchstone — A professional clown in Duke Frederick’s court and a courtier. A proud city person—surprised to discover that there are some delights in Arden.
Amiens — A loyal friend to Duke Senior and a talented musician. Knows everything going on in the court-in-exile.
Jaques — A follower of Duke Senior in Arden. Craves new experiences and knowledge. Tends toward melancholy, and has a keen sense of irony and humor.
Corin — A farmer. Wise in their own way.
Silvius — A young man who lives in Arden who is desperately in love with Phoebe. Loves love.
Phoebe — A serious young woman who lives in Arden and falls for Ganymede. Loves arguing and thrives in conflict.
