Singers, dancers, and actors. See breakdown. Local hires preferred.

PREPARATION

Prepare 32 bars of traditional musical theatre song in the style of the show. Bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.

The roles of Nellie Forbush and Emile De Becque have been cast.

Ngana - Emile’s young Polynesian daughter. (6-11) Sweet with slight mischief. Speaks and sings in French.

Jerome - Emile's young Polynesian son. (7-12) Clever and mischievous. Speaks and sings in French.

Henry - Emile's native Polynesian servant. (30’s) Kind and authoritative to the children. Speaks French and French dialect. May double as sailor. (Baritone)

Bloody Mary - A survivor. Bold, fearless, tough and wily with wry wild sense of humor. Protective of her daughter and ambitious for her to have a better life. (Mezzo)

Liat - Mary’s Polynesian daughter. (18-early 20’s) Beautiful, kind, innocent. May double as Ensign. (Non-singing, but if doubled will sing as female ensemble.)

Bloody Mary's Assistant - Polynesian female (late 20’s-30’s) May double as Ensign.

Luther Billis - Opportunistic entrepreneur of the island, the sailors and anyone else he can play. Bucks authority. Rough edged with a soft spot for Nellie. Bit of a clown. (20’s-early 30’s) (Baritone)

Abner - (plays 20’s) Sailor. (Baritone or Tenor)

Stewpot - Carpenter's Mate Second Class, George Watts - (plays 20’s) (Baritone)

Professor - (plays 20’s) Sailor. (Baritone or Tenor)

Lt. Joseph Cable, United States Marine Corps - (plays 20’s) - Small town boy with a good heart. Handsome.

Honorable. Smart. New to the island and it’s ways. Missing home. (Tenor)

Capt. George Brackett, United States Navy - (50’s) Commanding officer on the island. Slightly pompous but not without a soft side. Non-singing.

Cmdr. William Harbison, United States Navy - (30’s-40’s) Bracket's right hand man. Can be hotheaded, especially when Billis is concerned. May double as sailor. (Baritone)

Lt. Buzz Adams - (plays 20’s) Pilot who flies the undercover mission. Doubles as sailor. (Baritone)

Yeoman Herbert Quale - Doubles as sailor. (Baritone or Tenor)

Radio Operator Bob McCaffrey - Doubles as sailor. (Baritone or Tenor)

Lt. Genevieve Marshall - Lead Nurse - (30’s) (Mezzo-Soprano)

Ensign Dinah Murphy - Nellie’s best friend - (20’s) (Mezzo-Soprano)

Ensemble - Other Male (Baritones and Tenors) and Female (Mezzo-Sopranos) to play Sailors, Marines, Seabeas,

Patrolman, Ensigns, Nurses, Islanders, Nuns, Officers, Soldiers, Pilots. All should move well.
