==========

THE FLICK
By Annie Baker
Directed by Joe Calarco
ARK Stage: LORT D ($618/week min)
1st Rehearsal: February 2nd, 2016
Running: March 1st, 2016 – April 24th, 2016

Seeking:

AVERY:
African American. Male 20. Neurotic, educated son of a Semiotics professor at a local liberal arts college. Movie geek obsessed with preserving 35mm film projection (as opposed to digital). Battling crippling depression and taking the semester off from college (the one where dad teaches) following a suicide attempt. Not fitting most stereotypes himself, he feels uneasy with his racial and sexual identity and is puzzled by and resentful of others who seem to comfortably perform their own.

ROSE:
24. A projectionist. Sexually magnetic, despite the fact that (or partly because?) her clothes are baggy, she never wears make-up, her hair is dyed forest green, and, while not unfriendly, she’s adept at keeping the others at a comfortable distance. Avery arouses in her a personal and sexual curiosity, but she’s not the type to fall in love, or even develop what you’d normally call a crush.

SKYLAR:
26. Male. The new hire. Untroubled young man who’s good at his job and probably has his own small passion for the movies. Also plays MAN, a drowsy and dreaming movie patron.

All other roles have been cast. Actors will be considered for possible replacements.
