**Equity contracts will be considered for all roles.

Daisy and Violet understudy- Female, 28-35 years old, Caucasian. We are ideally looking for one female that can cover both roles, but are open to one for each. These roles require actors that sing incredibly well and are excellent part singers. There is an incredible amount of stamina needed for both roles; physical, emotional and vocal. Looking for gifted actors that are incredibly vulnerable and real. You must move well. In addition to the acting and vocal demands of these roles, there are some physical attributes you must fit since you would need to match up with the ladies cast in these roles. You must be between 5’3.5” and 5’4.75” tall and no larger than a dress size 6; preferably looking for a dress size 4. If you do not fit within this range, please do not submit for these roles. We will consider casting this as a standby or an understudy from the chorus and will discuss these options with the actor(s) upon casting.

TERRY CONNER- Male, able to play 35-40. (Baritone with strong upper range). A talent scout/agent for the Vaudeville circuit. Seeking an attractive and suave actor with a commanding presence and excellent rich voice. Daisy’s love interest. He is a man torn between what society deems to be “normal” and acceptable, and his emotions. He ultimately is a man out for his own interests and success. He is very charming and slick. He must be an excellent actor.

BUDDY FOSTER: Male, able to play late 20’s-35 (Tenor; big range, up to C with a strong sustained high A). He is an aspiring choreographer/performer; a song and dance man. Bright and energetic, but a bit naive. Full of genuine drive and heart. Violet’s love interest. He falls in love with Violet and the attention they are getting as they gain in success and fame.

JAKE: Male, African-¬American, 30-40. (tenor/baritone with strong top range). Sideshow Foreman. A large and very strong physical presence even when silent. Secretly in love with Violet. Must be a strong actor of great depth with a fantastic voice. Ideally would be in excellent physical shape and appears at one point in tribal type clothing that is somewhat revealing. He is a man of few words, but when he speaks it has great impact and he is heard loud and clear. He is an incredibly smart man and sees through Terry and Buddy’s intentions and wants only the best for the girls. He loves them both deeply and would do anything for them.

THE BOSS: Male. 35-60. Formidable presence, sleazy, drunk, owner and ring master of the side show. Must be a gifted actor with an excellent tenor voice; should have chords of steel as he does a fair amount of screaming/aggressive vocals. He needs to be physically different in some way. Short, stout, tall, thin, gangly…..anything different. I want him to be interesting looking and should be the type that you wouldn’t expect to have total control over a group of people, but yet does through brain washing and abuse. He is a disgusting human being and is the biggest “freak of them all”. He is a very broken man and takes it out on those around him. **Might double as Todd Browning at the end of the show. See that description below.

FEATURED & ENSEMBLE ROLES
** All ensemble actors must be strong actors that sing. The ensemble will double in a number of roles. They have an incredibly active show both on and off stage. Everyone needs to be in good physical condition regardless of age, size, etc. The costume changes alone are a marathon in itself. The roles listed below are their feat roles in the side show, but they will also play reporters, vaudevillians, spectators, Follies performers, party guests, radio singers, hawkers, etc. Some roles require dance/heavy movement.
FEMALE ENSEMBLE:
FORTUNE TELLER– Female. Open to all ages (18 and up), sizes, and ethnicities. Exotic look. An extremely strong belter/gospel voice. She is a motherly type figure to the side show performers and should have a strong and earthy presence.

DOLLY DIMPLES– Female. Based on a real person, Dolly was listed as the classic “Fat Lady” in the various side shows she travelled with. She needs to be a large woman and preferably 30-45, but will consider as young as 25 if the type is right. On stage she takes on the persona of a little girl in baby-doll type clothing, but backstage would be smoking a cigar and hanging with the guys. Crass and funny. Must be ok with stairs.

SNAKE LADY– Female. Snake Charmer. Dancer/strong mover. Strong technique a plus. Athletic/dancer’s body. Exotic. Open to all ages (18 and up) and ethnicities. Revealing costume. Ok with live snakes is a plus, but NOT required.

HAREM GIRLS– 3 Females. Dancers. Strong technique. Open to all ages (18 and up) and ethnicities. Must be comfortable appearing partially clothed.

POSSIBLE ADDITIONAL ENSEMBLE WOMEN– Considering all types, vocal ranges, and ethnicities. We are looking for women of all types that are excellent actors with great voices. People with special skills that lend themselves to side show type entertainment are strongly encouraged to audition.

MALE ENSEMBLE:
**All except 1, maybe 2, of the roles listed below need to move very well. 8 men in the show appear in traditional Egyptian attire, which means most of the men must be comfortable shirtless and in loin cloths.

GEEK– Male. Open to all ages (18 and up), and ethnicities. . A tightly wound and particular individual. He is a geek in the traditional and contemporary meaning of the word. He is extremely intelligent.

BEARDED LADY– Male. Open to all ages (18 and up) and ethnicities. Strong tenor voice. Feminine, but strong. Has a very strong opinion and not afraid to speak up.
REPTILE MAN – Male. Open to all ages (18 and up) and ethnicities. A sensitive and gentle soul among his friends.

SHEIK– Male. Body builder with an excellent body. Would be billed and “The Strong Man” that could do incredible things with his strength. Open to all ages (18 and up), sizes, and ethnicities.

FAKIR– Male. Athletic build. Exotic type; Open to all ages (18 and up) and sizes.

ROUSTABOUTS– 4 males. Dancers or strong movers that sing very well. Must be physically fit.

TODD BROWNING– This role is based on a real person; the director of the movie “Freaks” that the twins ultimately starred in; the film actually ended his career in Hollywood. It will be doubled from someone in the ensemble or The Boss. He is charming, well spoken and must be a great actor. He is a typical Hollywood director/business man and has come out to offer the twins a part in his new film contingent upon the publicity from the marriage ceremony between Violet and Buddy.

POSSIBLE ADDITIONAL ENSEMBLE MEN– Considering all types, vocal ranges and ethnicities. We are looking for men of all types that are excellent actors with great voices. People with special skills that lend themselves to side show type entertainment are strongly encouraged to audition.
