BREAKDOWN

SENIOR CLASS

SEEKING:

GEORGE BERNARD WASHINGTON, III (GB) - 17, Black. High school senior obsessed with all things Broadway. With his prodigy-like ability to play piano and compose, he along with Colin and Alizé, create a new musical Pygmalion. A Justin Cooley type. Or...Justin Cooley?

COLIN CROSBY - 17, White. High school senior obsessed with all things Broadway. A budding gay icon, Colin has his sights set on winning a Jimmy Award. Plays Professor Higgins” in Pygmalion. Think a younger Gavin Creel, Aaron Tveit, or Derek Klena. Tall, leading man who would absolutely play Higgins in his later years.

ALIZÉ DORSEY - 18, African American. One of the infamous “Showtime” subway dancers, Alizé’s abilities go beyond what unsuspecting passengers see on their commute. She is tough, confident, and fearlessly committed to using her talent to make it. Has a high belt to E, and an ability to charm while standing her ground. NOTE: Role was inspired by Ariana DeBose.

MARVA WASHINGTON - 40s. GB’s mother. Juilliard trained, world renowned opera diva, and recording artist. Think young Kathleen Battle, Denyce Graves. An Audra McDonald type- or a Bryonha Marie Parham type if Mrs. Swenson is unavailable.

BRICK JOHNSON - 17, White. High School Junior. Classic jock with a heart of gold. Plays “Pickering” in Pygmalion. Hot.

MEREDITH - 17, White. High school junior. Head cheerleader type. Brick's girlfriend. Plays “Mrs. Pearce” in Pygmalion. Hot.

TYQUASIA - 17, African American/Nigerian. Alizé’s no-nonsense best friend. Fashion icon. Queen Bee of “The Girlfriends.” Plays “Mrs. Eynsford-Hill” in Pygmalion.

TINY - 15, Diverse. Freshman. One of the “girlfriends.” Plays “Clara Eynsford-Hill” in Pygmalion.

DRE’ MARCUS - 17, Black. Another B-Boy. Plays “Freddy Eynsford-Hill” in Pygmalion. He is much more comfortable on the dance floor than onstage.

JAMAL - 17, Black. Another B-Boy. Fluid.

STEPH - 17, White. The stage manager of Pygmalion. She hates speaking in front of people, but will step up to the task when forced. An EMMA LORD voice.

COACH JOHNSON

40s, Brick’s Father. The Senior Class advisor (against his wishes). Doubles as MARSHALL.

MARSHALL - 40s, White. Marva’s Accompanist. Deliciously catty gay.

GRACE BENDEL-WALDORF - 50s, White. A Socialite. Chair of the Juilliard Gala. Doubles as MRS. ANDREWS.

MRS. ANDREWS - 50s, White. An English Teacher/Softball Coach hybrid who gets roped into playing Mrs. Higgins in Pygmalion.

ENSEMBLE - A collection of DIVERSE teens to play the B-BOYS, GIRLFRIENDS, and THE SENIORS.
