[RYAN] Male-identifying, mid – late 30s White, identifies as straight. Living a hand-to-mouth existence. Impulsive, imperfectly practical (minded). Single, estranged dad to his young biological daughter - making every effort to do right by her toward the goal of gaining co-parenting custody.
Winner of the 2022 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play, A Case for the Existence of God is a transcendent work of empathy and catharsis, bringing together the lives of two ordinary men, who, for different reasons, are outsiders to the systems that control their fate. After meeting at their daughters’ daycare, Ryan and Keith form an unlikely friendship, navigating the precariousness of fatherhood, loneliness, and the confounding terms of a mortgage loan.
