SEEKING

Seeking Equity actors of all races, ethnicities, and types. Must be able to speak verse with proficiency.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a 2 minute Shakespeare monologue in verse. Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back.

BREAKDOWN

Romeo/And other parts As Cast
Male, 15-20. Son of Montague. A complex young man who’s soul is illuminated when he meets Juliet. Must be a good swordsman.

Juliet/And other parts As Cast
Female, 15-20. Daughter of the Capulets. A spectacularly gifted woman who only begins to understand her gifts when she comes in contact with Romeo. This is the most challenging roles in Shakespeare’s cannon. Youthful actress who can embody all the wisdom of the character as well as the depth of emotion she goes through.

Mercutio/And other parts As Cast
Male, 15-20. Friend of Romeo’s and a relative of the prince. He is accepted by both the Capulets and the Montagues. He also hates Tybalt. Must be a good swordsman. This role has been cast.

Paris/Abram/And other parts As Cast
Male, 15-20. Paris: Young, kind, thoughtful and handsome. He asks Lord Capulet if he can marry Juliet. They believe he is a perfect husband for her. Must be a good swordsman. Abram: A Montague servant that wants to fight a Capulet Must be a good swordsman.

Benvolio/Friar John/And other parts As Cast
Male, 15-20. Romeo’s cousin. Peaceful, loving, thoughtful and kind but will fight when he is pushed to. He is honest and reliable and is good friends with Mercutio and Romeo. Must be a good swordsman.

Tybalt/And other parts As Cast
Male, 15-20. The Hot-headed nephew to Lord Capulet. He is the one who is most interested in the feud and the biggest troublemaker egging it on. Must be a good swordsman.

Sampson/And other parts As Cast
Male, 17-25. A Capulet Servant. He is unmarried and is always looking for a fight. Must be a good swordsman.

Gregory/Balthazar/And other parts As Cast
Male, 17-25. Gregory: The brighter of the two Capulet Servants. He also always wants a fight. Must be a good swordsman. Balthazar: Romeo’s personal servant. He is not very interested in the feud. Must be a good swordsman.

Escalus/Peter/And other parts As Cast
Male, 30-40. The Prince of Verona. Powerful vocal qualities and a masculine presence, a leader.

Nurse/And other parts As Cast
Female, 40-55. Juliet’s Nurse. A peasant. Caring and loving. The person who is most responsible for the upbringing of Juliet. Must be able to have humor.

Lady Capulet/And other parts As Cast
Female, 35-45. Juliet’s Mother. Not very happy in her marriage. A beautiful woman and must be able to play a range of emotions. She does not have a warm relationship with Juliet.

Friar Lawrence/And other parts As Cast
Male, 30-50. Devout, good humored and loving. Believes he can effect change in Verona. Must be able to speak beautifully.

Montague/Apothecary/And other parts As Cast
Male, 35-45. Romeo’s father. He is a very concerned and caring father.

Capulet/And other parts As Cast
Male, 35-45. Juliet’s father. Hot tempered and a man of self-importance. An actor who is capable of speaking with authority.

Lady Montague/And other parts As Cast
Female, 35-45. Romeo’s mother.
