THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPALS AND UNDERSTUDIES:

AMARA

Character portrayed is a Black woman in her 30s - 50s. Ulysses' mother and grieving widow, she is a nurse and recent single mother who is overworked and doing the best she can. Open yet burdened, Amara strives to protect Ulysses to the best of her abilities. Despite struggling to understand him, her love for Ulysses is boundless. A STRONG MOVER. VOCAL RANGE: Pop/contemporary Alto/Soprano.

AUNT ROSE

Character portrayed is a Black woman in her 40s - 60s. Ulysses’ aunt, she is the sister of Ulysses’ father. Tough, fierce yet loving, Aunt Rose is a church-going woman who provides additional support in caring for Ulysses while his mother works. While she loves Ulysses, she doesn’t understand him and is often limited and unable to overlook who he is and who he becomes. A STRONG MOVER. VOCAL RANGE: Thrilling Gospel Soloist Alto/Soprano.

HEAVEN

Character portrayed is a transwoman or nonbinary person of color in their 20s - 40s. Ebony’s friend and frick to Dijon’s frack. A member of Saturday Church, Heaven has a sharp, often hilarious tongue and will read you for filth, but when needed they will be a friend instead of a foe. A STRONG DANCER. BALLROOM STYLES, HIP HOP, AND CONTEMPORARY A PLUS. VOCAL RANGE: Pop/contemporary, all vocal ranges welcome.

DIJON

Character portrayed is a transwoman or nonbinary person of color in their 20s - 30s. Ebony’s friend, and frack to Heaven’s frick. A member of Saturday Church, Dijon always looks like a million bucks even though they’ve made it all on a dime. Funny and full of sweetness, Dijon is supportive and will always be there to lend a hand. A STRONG DANCER. BALLROOM STYLES, HIP HOP, AND CONTEMPORARY A PLUS. VOCAL RANGE: Pop/contemporary, all vocal ranges welcome.

RAYMOND/ENSEMBLE

Character portrayed is a Black gay man in his late teens. A handsome young person who has had to grow up quickly—Raymond is tough yet can be loving. A chance encounter with Ulysses leads to hope and love. Raymond introduces Ulysses to Saturday Church and Ebony, Heaven, and Dijon. A STRONG DANCER. BALLROOM STYLES, HIP HOP, AND CONTEMPORARY A PLUS. VOCAL RANGE: Dynamic pop/contemporary Tenor.

MARK/ENSEMBLE

Character portrayed is a gay man in his 30s or 40s. Open to all ethnicities. To portray multiple roles, including MARK: a rich, well-dressed wolf of a man. Hypnotizing and terrifying all at once. Mark’s charm leads Ulysses down an unexpected path. A STRONG DANCER. BALLROOM STYLES, HIP HOP, AND CONTEMPORARY A PLUS. VOCAL RANGE: Pop/contemporary Tenor/Baritone.

ENSEMBLE

ULYSSES

[THIS ROLE IS ON OFFER] Character portrayed is an 18-year-old Black gay man. Beautiful, joyful, and pious, the urge for glamour and fabulousness oozes from every inch of his body – he just hasn’t quite figured out how to tap into that just yet. Gloriously femme in the most innocent way. A STRONG DANCER. BALLROOM STYLES, HIP HOP, AND CONTEMPORARY A PLUS. VOCAL RANGE: Thrilling pop/contemporary Tenor, strong, dynamic falsetto a plus.

BLACK JESUS

[THIS ROLE IS ON OFFER] Character portrayed is a Black gay man or nonbinary person in their 40s or 50s. Fabulous, sexy, kind, and inclusive. Black Jesus enters any room like Beyoncé at Coachella. Their voice commands attention and so does their expensive outfits. Our ringleader, narrator, and confidant to Ulysses. A STRONG SINGER AND DANCER. BALLROOM STYLES, HIP HOP, AND CONTEMPORARY A PLUS. VOCAL RANGE: Thrilling Gospel Tenor.

EBONY

[THIS ROLE IS ON OFFER] Character portrayed is a Latina or Black transgender woman in her mid-late 30s. An icon, Ebony is a former voguer who until recently ran Saturday Church. Funny, sad, loving, and a natural leader. Grieving the loss of her friend, Sasha, she is a sister and mother figure to Heaven, Dijon, and Raymond. Ebony finds kinship with Ulysses when he unexpectedly walks into Saturday Church, restoring her faith, hope, and joy. Ebony becomes an additional mother figure to Ulysses and in return Ulysses saves Ebony. A STRONG DANCER. BALLROOM STYLES, HIP HOP, AND CONTEMPORARY A PLUS. VOCAL RANGE: Pop/contemporary, all vocal ranges welcome.
