PREPARATION

Please come prepared to dance in whatever you feel comfortable moving in and whatever shoes you prefer. You will not need tap shoes or pointe shoes. Also, please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

BREAKDOWN

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical
mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas
are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.
Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the
extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

TIANANMEN: A NEW MUISCAL

Content-informed casting note: Tiananmen is a fictional musical that dramatizes events of the 1989
Tiananmen Square student protests in Beijing. The story contains violence related to war and
hunger/food insecurity related to hunger strikes.

SEEKING:

Buddy: Born a human but raised at the North Pole as a Christmas Elf, Buddy is eager to find his palce
in the world.

Jovie: Buddy’s girlfriend. An employee at Macy’s with a cyncial outlook on life and love because of the
men she’s dated. Caught off guard by Buddy’s genuinely big heart.

Walter: Buddy’s workaholic father. A children’s book writer who lacks Buddy’s childlike spirit. Selfish, tense, and generally angry with life.

Emily: Walter’s wife. Sweet and willing to take in Buddy. Wishes her husband would spend more time
with the family.

Michael: Buddy’s stepbrother. Age 12-16.

Deb: Walter’s secretary. A bit of a suck-up and feels under appreciated.

Manager: Manager at Macy’s.

Greenway: Walter’s boss. A tyrannical workaholic who cares nothing about the people around him or
who work for him.

Santa: Loves his job and Christmas. A natural storyteller.

Chadwick: One of Walter’s right-hand men. Desperate to keep his job and not very bright.

Matthews: One of Walter’s right-hand men. Desperate to keep his job and a schemer.

Gerry Goffin: Carole’s boyfriend, songwriting partner, and eventual husband. An ambitious artist
always striving for more.

Barry Mann: A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Cynthia. Ambitious but likeable.

Cynthia Weil: A songwriter. Carole’s best friend. Sophisticated, smart, and chic with a quick wit.

Don Kirschner: An influential music publisher and producer. Powerful, direct, and sometimes
intimidating.

Genie Klein: Carole’s Jewish mother. Once an aspiring playwright. Protective of Carole and
unforgiving of her husband’s mistakes.
