Breakdown
The Primal Scream is a love story set in a group therapy setting. Not the usual group, but a new kind of feeling therapy patterned after The Primal Scream (Primal Therapy)
Cast of Characters
POP ROCK VOICES FOR ALL ROLES.
PRINCIPALS:
JULIE – Mid to late 20s - A beautiful, shy all-American type, who is obviously depressed and repressed at the start of the play. She evolves into an open, loving and caring person. She is a painter.
JIM – Late 20s - A cynical, skeptical, repressed soul who is tall, well built, and has an air about him of not caring. He is a cocky musician in therapy by command of the courts for his treatment of his ex-wife.
DOCTOR – Mid 40s – humorous, warm, sometimes funny, enthusiastic, passionate man who is dedicated to his new radical therapy. He is trim and, at times, self-deprecating. He is a serious scholar.
TED – Early 30s – A wiry, hyperactive, wise-cracking Lenny Bruce type. He is a comic by profession. And, like many comics quite depressed. Married to Alice.
ALICE – Mid 30s – An intellectual, not terribly pretty, with glasses and stringy hair. A former radical who approaches everything with her “head.” She is addicted to big words and elaborate explanations. Married to Ted.
MARISSA – 30s – A pretty, slightly ding-batty woman. She is mystical and lives by astrology. She talks like a baby, and is an immature person.
ALEX – 30s - A gay priest who is very deprived. He is in therapy to stop being gay.
