PRELUDE TO A KISS
PETER - Male 20s-30s A smart, loving but complicated everyman. An off-beat romantic, falls in love with Rita and wants to build a life with her, but his clear path forward is quickly thrown off course. Vocal: Strong pop tenor or bari-tenor with a bit of grit and strong falsetto.
RITA - Female, 20s - 30s. A funny and charming, but cynical woman. Her innate warmth softens the corners of her dry, blunt sense of humor. She loves Peter, but is unsure of her place in life. When she is embodied by Julius, she becomes vivacious, spry and invigorated by life. Vocal: Folky pop voice, with belt.
JULIUS Male, 70s, An elderly man who wanders into the wedding and upon contact with the bride is embodied by Rita who becomes trapped in his older body as she waits for Peter to “recognize” her. Vocal: Baritone G2 - F4
TAYLOR – Male, 30s. Peter’s best friend who introduces the couple. A big hearted ‘bro’ with a great sense of humor. Vocal: Pop tenor to an A.
ANGIE – Female or Non-Binary 30s-40s. Rita’s best friend and co-worker. A tough, funny, lesbian bartender who is always there when you need her with a joke or good advice. Vocal: Pop mezzo/belter with an edge.
RITA’s MOM - Female, 50s-60s. Funny, smart, and spunky. A neurosurgeon with both heart and intellect. Sweet and caring but not easily fooled. Vocal: Mezzo/Soprano.
LEAH – Female, 40s-early 50s. Julius’ daughter. Salt of the earth and sensitive. Cares deeply for her father and is concerned for his advancing age and health. Vocal: Strong belter in the mezzo/alto range with a strong contemporary mix.
