BREAKDOWN

PHANTOM

Erik, the Phantom: 20’s – 30’s, baritone with bass notes; dark, brooding, with artistic sensitivity underneath, shuns contact with people but is yearning for love (which he finds with Christine)

Christine Daaé: 20’s, young beautiful soprano, warm and optimistic, filled with dreams of singing on the opera stage, drawn to Erik’s musical gifts and to his soul

Count Philippe de Chandon: 20’s, baritone/tenor, rich patron of the arts, handsome, confidant , is in love with Christine

Gérard Carrière: 40’s-50’s, baritone, former director of the Opera, warm and wise, Erik’s protector, a kind man with a dark secret,

Alain Cholet: The new head of the Opera. 30’s -50’s, comic character man, gives the impression of being in charge but is in fact ruled by Carlotta

Carlotta: His diva wife. Late 30’s – 50’s, mezzo soprano, grande dame of the Opera, jealous of anyone younger, prettier, and more talented – especially Christine

NEWSIES

Jack: 20’s, Handsome, passionate and charismatic leader of the Newsies. A street-smart kid with a dark artistic soul right beneath the bluster. Not a blowhard. This kid's the real thing. Must have a great pop tenor voice.

Davey: 20’s, A thinker. Raised in a home as opposed to the other Newsies, Davie is the book-smart counterpoint to the other boys. The voice of reason. A nice Jewish boy. Must have a great contemporary tenor voice.

Joseph Pulitzer: 40s, The boisterous forefather of Wm. F. Buckley Jr, Glen Beck and Rupert Murdoch. An on point, know it all, politician. Impolite and impatient with the world. Must sing well.

Katherine Plumber: 20’s, The strong willed daughter of Pulitzer. This young lady drips smarts, opinions and confidence. A young Katherine Hepburn or Ellen Page. This damsel needs no prince to save her. Must have a great pop/contemporary musical theater voice with a high belt.

Crutchie: 20’s, any ethnicity. A slight, sickly boy with a huge heart. He walks with the aid of a crutch due to a bad leg, but that doesn't hold him back from being right in the middle of any mischief. A real charmer.

Medda: Female, 40s – 60s, A vaudeville star of the Bowery variety. Risque, tough, with a big voice and GREAT comic delivery. Seeking female character actor.
