BREAKDOWN
Actors Theatre of Louisville is committed to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices in all areas, including casting. Our goal is to create a casting process that is welcoming, absent of intimidation, and serves those auditioning as well as the creative team in the full exploration of the material. Building an environment of mutual trust that upholds our mission to unlock human potential, build community, and enrich quality of life by engaging people in theatre that reflects the wonder and complexity of our time.
In reference to the descriptions below – these are descriptions of the characters as identified in the script and in collaboration with the creative team. They are not meant to be exhaustive of who should play these roles and we seek to cast expansively and intentionally. We acknowledge the history of systemic exclusionary practices and are working to dismantle barriers to theatre-making and auditioning for performers of all races, ethnicities, national origins, gender expressions, body types, and abilities. We also recognize that most characters are written on the binary (use he/him or she/her pronouns) and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
As an ADA compliant organization, we welcome performers of all abilities. We are prepared to engage interpreters, utilize captioning, and provide any reasonable accommodations and resources needed in order to cast performers with disabilities.
Please let us know if you have any questions or requests. If there are any provisions we can make to enhance and support your audition experience, just let us know. Please reach out through the note section of your breakdown submission or by emailing Kavin Moore, kmoore2@actorstheatre.org
