Folger Theatre practices non-traditional casting. We encourage people of every race, color, culture, age, gender, physical disability, and sexual orientation to audition, EOE. Musical ability a plus for all of the roles in Our Verse in Time to Come.

BREAKDOWN

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

Additional roles to be doubled among the cast.

S.O.S. (Black, Male, late 50s, 90s rapper/hip-hop artist) Widower, recently released from prison. ROLE CAST.

Sprite (Mixed-race, Female or Non-binary, ageless but youthful) An embodiment of SOS’s memories.

Vi Waters (Black, Female, late 20s, Millennial) The older twin, a lawyer, public defender turned budding politician. ROLE CAST.

Will Waters (Black, Male, late 20s, Millennial) The younger twin, he is down, authentic, and always himself. ROLE CAST.

Joan Chen (Asian, Female, late 40s/early 50s, GenXer) This Big Sister attorney is known as Judge Joan. ROLE CAST.

Jimmy (J Bizzy or J Dizzy) (BIPOC, Male, mid to late 40s)

Black (Black, Male, 40s or 50s) Buford Simmons, is affectionately referred to as “Black.”
