Equity actor/singers for various roles. See breakdown

PREPARATION

Please prepare a song in the style of the show that shows vocal range. The score to October Sky pulls from Appalachian folk and bluegrass, Copeland-esque Americana, and later ‘50s rock and roll. An accompanist will be provided.

Please bring a picture and resume, STAPLED TOGETHER.

BREAKDOWN

Homer Hickam – Seeking actors 18+. Homer is 16. A fish out of water with a curiosity not common in Coalwood, West Virginia. He harbors a secret dream to venture into space. He is as stubborn and driven as his father. Tenor to Ab.

John Hickam - 40s - Homer's father. A hard-as-nails mine superintendent but not without humor and compassion when they're needed. He is fiercely loyal to his men but has to answer to the mining company at the end of the day. Baritone to F. OFFER OUT.

Elsie Hickam - 40s - Homer's mother. A former dreamer who has settled into the routine of her coal-dust covered life as a wife of a miner. She is compassionate, intelligent, supportive and desperate to find a way for Homer to avoid working in the mine. Alto, belt to C#. OFFER OUT.

Roy Lee Cooke - Seeking actors 18+. Roy Lee is 16. Handsome, cocky, Elvis look-alike. Able to take on the world in spite of his dysfunctional home life. Rock tenor to A. OFFER OUT.

O'Dell Carroll - Seeking actors 18+. O’Dell is 16. Always upbeat and verging on hyperactive. His filter-free view of the world is wildly infectious. Tenor/Baritone, falsetto to high D. OFFER OUT.

Quentin Wilson - Seeking actors 18+. Quentin is 16. A social misfit from the wrong side of the tracks with a keen aptitude for all things scientific. The frequent target of the school bullies. Tenor to A. OFFER OUT.

Freida Riley - 30s - The high school teacher who sees in Homer a spark that needs fanning. She is tough, compassionate and desperate to make a change. Folky mezzo soprano to D.

Ken Dubonnet - 30s/40s - African American - The headstrong union leader of the mine. He is respected, loyal to his men and a powerful adversary to John, in spite of the fact that they were once good friends. Baritone.

Pauline Dubonnet - Seeking actors 18+. Pauline is 16. - African American - Ken's uncommonly intelligent and no-nonsense daughter. A clear understanding of the limitations of her world forces her to encourage Homer to fight against his. Soprano, belt to E.
