CLINTON THE MUSICAL
By: Paul Hodge and Michael Hodge
Director: Adam Arian
Casting: Tara Rubin Casting
General Manager: Davenport Theatrical
WJ CLINTON – Tenor
(46 in real life at beginning of presidency)
President of the United States. The noble, heroic side of Bill Clinton. He is empathetic and wants to help transform America for a new century. He wants the public to remember him as a great President in the same vein as his hero JFK. He hates the “politics” of public service because he sees it as dirty, which is why he rejects Billy. The neglect and uncertainty of the Bills’ childhood is reflected in his need for love from the public.
BILLY CLINTON – Baritone
(46 in real life at beginning of presidency)
President of the United States. The darker, seductive, controlling side of Bill Clinton. He is charming and funny and a master showman, able to dazzle the public. He is the master politician, trying to control everyone around him and willing to do anything to win, which can lead to some morally ambiguous choices. Billy’s response to the Bills’ childhood is altogether different: he tries to avoid vulnerability by dominating those around him and seeking gratification in uncomplicated relationships.
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON – Mezzo
(45 in real life at beginning of presidency)
First Lady of the United States. She is tough and is not intending to be a traditional first lady. Though she is strong, she also vulnerable. She has her own agenda that she wants to achieve and wishes to be a co-president with her husband(s). She feels lost when the public rejects this arrangement and is devastated by the sexual exploits of Bill.
NEWT GINGIRCH – Tenor
(49 in real life at beginning of presidency)
Republican Speaker of the House. Newt is a megalomaniac with grand dreams of making history. He aims to do this by taking down Clinton and making the Speaker of the House more powerful than the president. His background as the child of a military family makes him see politics as war.
KENNETH STARR – Tenor
(46 in real life at beginning of presidency)
Special Prosecutor. Starr wants to be a star. If Mama Rose was alive in the 90s, she’d be Kenneth Starr. He is camp, fun and evil. He is obsessed with Clinton and his sex life. Has to strip down to a G-string and S&M chains.
MONICA LEWINKSY – Mezzo
(20 in real life at beginning of presidency)
Whitehouse Intern. Monica is peppy, flirtatious and a little naïve (she’s from Beverly Hills!). Family connections get her a job at the Whitehouse where she falls head over heels for Billy and believes that he is in love with her too. When the Lewinsky scandal breaks she is left out in the cold, devastated by what has been done to her.
Doubling PAULA JONES (Arkansas accent) and CALLISTA BISEK.
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT – Soprano
(was 78 when she died, was 41-60 while first lady)
Former First Lady of the United States. Eleanor is stately, strong and outspoken. She appears to impart wisdom to the audience which is continually misinterpreted by Hillary. Eleanor is strong like Hillary and visits her to convince her to stay with Bill after the affair in the same way that Eleanor stayed with FDR after her affairs.
DICK MORRIS – Tenor, (New York Accent)
(44 in real life at beginning of presidency)
Political Strategist for the Clintons. Dick is a dick. He is arrogant and repulses almost everyone. But he is a great political strategist. Having brought the Clintons back from disaster while Bill was Arkansas governor, he is brought in to help the Clintons during the presidency. He believes himself a great performer like Billy, but has no charm. He has a sex scandal of his own.

EMMY (18 years old, Female) Any ethnicity. Mezzo-soprano: A4-G6
Best friends with Chelsea and John. A super hardworking, bright young woman with a secret. Has chosen to devote herself to her studies at the expense of her social life. Comes from a long line of successful Princeton graduates. Under a lot of pressure at home, but that’s nothing compared to the pressure she puts on herself.
AMELIA (18 years old, Female) Any ethnicity. Alto: A4-C6, singer-songwriter
A quirky loner who really has no idea how to make friends. Style is adorably eclectic, which this is probably not on purpose, but still has an alluring effect on boys. Dealing with the divorce of her parents by attempting to forge friendships with her classmates for the first time. Plays guitar.
CHELSEA (18 years old, Female) Any ethnicity. Mezzo belt: C4-D6
Tucker’s sister. Best friends with Emmy and John. A bit rough around the edges and sexually advanced for her age. Considers herself a feminist, but is still figuring out what that means. Very bright, though that’s not the first thing she wants people to notice about her.
TUCKER (20 years old, Male) Any ethnicity. Baritone: A3-G5, jazz, strong falsetto/riffing
Chelsea’s brother. The teenage version of Matthew McConaughey from Dazed and Confused. Graduated from high school two years ago, but still lives at home with no discernible life direction. Plays the role fun loving stoner, but is actually a person of great substance and character if you can get past the goofy façade.
RICHIE (18 years old, Male) Any ethnicity. Bari-tenor: F#3-F5
Chelsea’s boyfriend, but he’s in love with Emmy. A bro from the lacrosse team. Athletic build. Able to ingratiate himself into any social circle by picking up on the traits of those around him.
JOHN (18 years old, Male) Any ethnicity. Tenor: C3-Bflat5
Any ethnicity. Best friends with Chelsea and Emmy. A wealthy only child, who hides the pain of his relationship with his absentee parents by throwing great parties. His friends have become his family, and he will protect them at any cost. Still a virgin and would prefer not to be. Has no game with women. Plays guitar.

Director: Stephen Nachamie
SEEKING:
ROBERT (BOB) HARRISON: Mr. Confidential himself. He's movie-star handsome and looking for a way to become a true man-about-town, but he isn't sure he matters to the world. His bravado is real. Yet fear of failing always beckons. Early 40s to mid-50s. Baritone.

JEANNIE DOUGLAS: Bob's cotton-candy girlfriend is a drop-dead stunner. She's a showgirl who gets lots of ink from the columnists, and a dumb blonde who proves to be anything but. Versatility required; 2nd soprano, from Broadway belt to breathy soprano, tap dances. Late 20s to very early 30s.
EDITH: Bob's matronly older sister is a worrier and a mother. Maybe she seems a little meek, but she morphs into a pit-bull when she has to defend her beloved brother Bob or her daughter Marjorie. Soprano. (Also in ensemble). Late 50s, early 60s.
MICHAEL: He's a fresh-faced, geeky high school student; Bob's nephew, Marjorie's brother, Edith's son. He idolizes his Uncle Bob and idly dreams of becoming just like him one day. Tenor. (Also in ensemble). Late teens, early 20s.
