Breakdown

SYNOPSIS:

Synopsis: During the 1970’s, the American painter, Jamie Wyeth (son of Andrew) did a series of works about the dancer, Rudolf Nureyeve. The play imagines what their encounters may have been like.

NOTE:
In many ways, the two men are foils for each other. It will help to keep in mind that Nureyev called himself a “tartar,” a romantic kind of dancer,” passionate and volatile. Contrast him with Wyeth, born and raised at home in a small New England environment. Think of Nureyev as closer to “Carmen,” whereas Wyeth is closer to “Our Town.”)

SEEKING:

Rudolf Nureyev
An international Russian ballet star who has defected to the West. Passionate and volatile. Seeking an actor to play from ages 36-54. Must have some ballet experience. (There are many excellent youtube videos of Nureyev in interviews and dance performances for reference.)
