ROLES:
MIA. Female-identifying. Mezzo (or Alto with significant upper range), high belt. Up to E5. The overlooked ingenue ready to rage out and play a new part. Gifted, explosive, and possesses real emotional depth. While her peers see her as a Juliet, she feels more like the bastard Edmund—hungry for power and recognition. In pursuit of the throne, Mia is emboldened to try on different versions of herself—including the villain. Powerhouse singing voice. Open to a variety of styles: Brandi Carlile to Cynthia Erivo to Florence Welch, etc.
SEABASS. Male-identifying. Tenor. Up to A5. The jock recruited to be an understudy at the Festival. Fun, Passionate, Endearing. Always the life of the party and a total Romeo… including the broken heart. But here at the Festival, a new person captures his attention just as he’s thrust onstage to take on the role of the iconic lover. Has an open and emotionally expressive modern voice. Open to a variety of styles.
ELI. Male-identifying. Tenor or Baritenor. Up to Ab5. An over-thinking ingenue who has never been kissed. Smart, Sensitive, Funny. Eli is someone who is prepared for any scenario from rain to snow. But the one thing he didn’t prepare for was falling in love. And now suddenly, for the first time, Eli finds himself playing a lover in real life: the Juliet to Seabass’ Romeo. Has an open and emotionally expressive modern voice. Open to a variety of styles.
DJ. Female-identifying. Alto with range up to D5. A Mercutio on and off stage dripping with swagger. Sexy, Chill, Hedonistic. She loves to take the piss out of everyone and have a good time. For DJ, the Festival is always a lust-filled weekend bedding any woman she desires. The only rule is: no catching feels. But when DJ is sidelined by someone else’s love story, she must reconsider her no-strings-attached attitude.
BEE. Female-identifying. Mezzo, high belt. Up to E5. A skillful leading lady and Mia’s biggest rival at the Festival. Bold, Inventive, Electric. Bee has a tough outer shell and plays a killer Lady M, but underneath it all has a softness rooted in a pure love for theatre. Has excellent vocal chops and rhythmic sensibility.
WILLIE. Female-identifying. Mezzo. Up to D5. A wide-eyed freshman. Excited, Earnest, Lovely. Willie is a first-timer at the Festival, and is bursting at the seams with nerves and excitement being around so many theatre people. She longs for love and thinks this might be the place to find it. Has excellent comedic timing and physical humor.
COLIN. Male-identifying. Baritenor or Tenor. Up to Ab5. The brooding leading man. Charming, Scheming, Toxic. Colin is reigning champ and king of the Festival. He is set to play Romeo, but throws everyone for a loop when he arrives at the Festival on the side of the rival team playing King Lear. And not only are his eyes set on keeping the throne, he’s also cast his gaze towards Mia. Has a unique rock or alt pop voice. Open to a variety of styles: Frank Ocean to Rufus Wainwright to Jeff Buckley etc.
ARI. Any gender. Flexible range. Excellent in tight 3-part harmony. One of “The Witches’”. Think The Craft. Ari is the wise one. Reads palms and tea leaves.
TRIX. Any gender. Flexible range. Excellent in tight 3-part harmony. One of “The Witches’”. Think The Craft. Trix is the mischievous one. Particularly good at hexing.
SKY. Any gender. Flexible range. Excellent in tight 3-part harmony. One of “The Witches’”. Think The Craft. Sky is the spacey one. Lives by planetary shifts.
