Breakdown
NORA HELMER:
30’s. Torvald’s wife, and the mother of his children. She seems at first like a playful, naïve child who lacks real knowledge of the world outside. We soon find out that she does have some real experience of the world and that she is not quite as innocent or content as we thought. Torvald’s explosive response to his discovery of the actions she has taken to save him and her family forces her to see her position in her marriage and in the world with shattering clarity. LEADING ROLE
TORVALD HELMER:
Late 30’s - early 40’s. Nora’s husband. Intelligent and well-educated, in his full power as a man an businessman. About to begin his new position as manager of a bank, having fully recovered from several years of illness and financial struggle for himself and his family. He loves Nora and still has great attraction for her, but treats her like a child, a plaything, a doll…he can be both kind and patronizing to her. Torvald is a product of his time, very concerned with societal status for himself and his family. Anything that threatens this status and the stability that comes with it triggers huge and often unreasonable emotional response. LEADING ROLE
KROGSTAD:
Late 30’s - early 40's. A lawyer. Originally a school friend of Torvald, he now works under Torvald at the bank. Though he regrets having made some unwise, illegal decisions on behalf of his family in past years, his resentment about his resulting fall from grace (and his continuing need to care for his family) allow him to justify more unethical behavior. He is willing to put Nora in a horrible situation while at the same time feeling empathy for her. Harbors hurt/resentment at Christine, who refused to marry him years ago because she had to care for her family. MAJOR SUPPORTING ROLE
The other two roles Mrs. Linde and Dr. Rank are already cast.
