BREAKDOWN
High-powered lawyer Pablo and his wife Tania, a doctoral candidate, are working toward the American Dream. They move into a well-to-do, mostly white neighborhood in our nation’s capital. A delicate disagreement over a long-standing fence line soon spirals into an all-out, laugh-out-loud comic border dispute, exploring what is an otherwise hot-button issue through a refreshing comedic lens.
SEEKING:
TANIA DEL VALLE (Female, late 20s) Latina. Born and raised in New Mexico. She is charming, 29 years old, 8 months pregnant and working on her Doctoral Thesis in Anthropology. She is smart, motivated, and determined to ‘make a difference’ with her efforts and contributions to save the world. Tania has a healthy self-image and easily stands up for her idealistic passions, but her compromising, generous and emphatic spirit challenges her to be a good listener and a considerate and thoughtful neighbor, even when circumstances of her own personal desires are put to the test. However, she is not a ‘quitter’ either. She loves her husband, likes herself and has designs on how she imagines their lives in a new home and neighborhood. She’s up for the fight for what’s right.
PABLO DEL VALLE (Male, early 30s) Latino. Born and raised in Chile. He is 31 years old with a very privileged upbringing. He is an excellent thinker, who has accomplished a degree in law and is the newest member of a prestigious firm in Washington D.C.. Pablo is ambitious, willing to please, motivated to make a good impression and to ‘fit in’ as an immigrant in his new employment. Good natured and nurturing as are his instincts, he is also impulsive and driven at times by insecurities that compromise his intuitive problem-solving nature. So, when a situation presents itself where he would have to ‘go back on his word’, a specific kind of humility threatens to upset his steadfast core values and he is confronted with the ‘fight or flight’ syndrome. In his heart, his loyalty to his wife and his protective objective of the home they dream of creating butts up against his stubborn, righteous, albeit fragile ego. Pablo is a dedicated, loving, smart guy who finds himself in a tough situation.
