Breakdown
HIGHWAY: Rehearsals begin the week of April 4 / PerformsMay 6 - May 29 (Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm; Sundays at TBD; no performance on May 15) / Opening night isMonday, May 9 (Please note -- there will be a developmental workshop Feb 19-22. This workshop will be on a separate workshop contract)

THE MOST DANGEROUS HIGHWAY roles include:
SAMIRA: 20s, Afghan female, a ghost whose consciousness is flooded with images of her past life. The actress must be able to handle complex and fast language.
A LITTLE GIRL: 6-8 years old, Afghan girl. She is a ghost—innocent and playful.
TRAFFIC: 8-11 years old. Afghan boy. A little businessman, who has been surviving on the side of a highway directing traffic. He has no family, and very little memory of his life prior to the highway. He is surprisingly mature for his age due to having to survive by himself.
RAQIB: 50s/60s, Afghan male. He has just had a car accident and is disoriented. A practical businessman, but carries a deep painful secret. Actor must have good comedic timing with an emotional vulnerability.
NADER: 20s, Afghan National Army Soldier. Simple and kind-hearted. Gets high most of the time to escape his day-to-day duties on the highway.
SAMI: 20s, Afghan National Army soldier. A man who doesn't mind using force to get things done.
OUR ENEMIES roles include:
NOOR: late 20s/early 30s, female, Arab-American novelist. She is smart, passionate, articulate. She is given a great opportunity by a major publisher that requires her to play into Middle Eastern stereotypes and must make a choice.
OLIVIA: 30s, female, Caucasian, literary agent, fast-talker, sexy. A brutal businesswoman.
GAMAL: late 20s/early 30s, male, Arab-American. Unsuccessful writer and angry. Noor's boyfriend.
MOHSEN: late 20s/early 30s, male, Arab-American. He has become a literary star and is willing to play the game to make it.
HANI: 18, male, Arab-American. Young and bright-eyed. American-born, but very curious about his religious and ethnic heritage. Devoted to his father, Sheikh Alfani.
SHEIKH ALFANI: 50s, male, Arab-American. Respected religious leader at local mosque and frequent media commentator. Hani’s father.
EARL/RUSSEL/FATHER CAROL: 40s/50s, male, Caucasian. Plays multiple roles, including a smarmy TV interviewer, a racist literary publisher, and a church leader.
