Breakdown

Magic Theatre's 2016-2017 season: Nogales by RIchard Montoya in collaboration with Campo Santo with visual design by Joan Osato, directed by Sean San Jose. Virgin Play Festival; Fool for Love by Sam Shepard, directed by Loretta Greco; Baltimore Watlz by Paula Vogel, directed by Jon Moscone; Grandeur by Han Ong, directed by Loretta Greco. Actors of all ethnicities and types encouraged to apply. Strong preference for Bay Area actors.

NOGALES

Ensemble: Latina, Black, or Asian female (late teens- late 20s) for various parts

Ensemble: Latina Female (mid 30-40s) for various parts

Ensemble: Latino, Black, or Asian male (late teens-late 20s) for various parts

FOOL FOR LOVE

Eddie: all ethnicities; male, 30s, a proud cowboy, Marlboro Man type. He has taken to liquor; that and his passion and competetive streak get him into trouble.

May: all ethnicities; female, 30s, Eddie's former lover. Strong-willed and vulnerable. She is equal to Eddie's verbal gymnastics and power plays. She craves stability, affection, self-empowerment and independence. She is torn between the fantasy and memory of their love and the reality and pain of their past.

Martin: all ethnicities; male, 30s a kind, uncomplicated and innocent maintenance worker.

Old Man: all ethnicities 50s - 70s, craggly and weathered. A contrarian. A selfish and naïve man, whose bad habits have rubbed off on his children. In the past, figments of his imagination have allowed him to convince himself that he could balance two lives without consequences.

BALTIMORE WALTZ

Anna: all ethnicities; female, 30s

Carl: all ethnicities; male, 30s, Anna's brother

Third Man/Doctor and many other roles: all ethnicities; 40s - 50s

GRANDEUR

Steve Barron: African-American male, late 20s - early 30s, an aspiring journalist.

Earnest, cautious and well-meaning, but with a little life under his belt and some sophistication.

Miss Julie: African American , 40s. Student and caretaker to Gil Scott-Heron. Plainspoken affect; she means what she says.
