BREAKDOWN
ABOUT
A middle-aged man and woman meet at a cocktail party and ponder the relationship that eluded them 30 years ago. While the pair re-discover each other and themselves, a bevy of delightful guests rally behind them.
AUSTIN:
Male, late 40’s- early 50’s
Conservative, distinguished, and somewhat lonely; A Bostonian trapped in the rigidities of his upbringing; spent his life worried something terrible will befall him; timid to take risks. Caucasian.
RUTH:
Female, late 40’s- early 50’s
Open-minded, breezy, quirky, and romantic; has had her share of bad luck and tragedy; in an addictive relationship with her divorced husband; leads a tumultuous life.
ACTOR 1
One male actor to play Jim, Roy, Duane, Ted, and Walt late 40’s – early 60’s
Jim, scruffy, philosophical, a former professor who can’t stop smoking; Roy, a cantankerous retired athlete; Duane, a completely tech-savvy nerd; Ted, a frisky Southern gentleman; and Walt, Austin's gregarious, lifelong buddy.
ACTOR 2
One female actor to play Sally, Marion, Nancy, and Ester late 40’s – early 60’s
Sally, perky, playful hostess and matchmaker; Marion, Roy’s wife, proud grandmother, would rather stay at the party then deal with Roy; Nancy, a lesbian on the make; and Esther, Ted's boisterous Southern wife, delving into Yankee culture.
