SYNOPSIS: Kudzu Calling is a theatrical interweaving of poetry-rich scenes that celebrates Black Southern Love, Black Southern Queerness, Black Southern Playfulness, Culture, and Spirituality. It follows a Wanderer who has returned home and, guided by Trees that are rooted in Southern soil, begins a journey to rediscover herself.
The role of THE WANDERER has already been cast.
All characters have some facility with poetry and are able to sing gospel or blues and rap acapella.
OAK: The oldest and wisest among them. Moves well. (Black Woman – An Elder)
MAGNOLIA: Feminine and strong. Moves well. (Black Woman – Middle Aged)
DOGWOOD: A stubborn hard-earned beauty. Moves well. (Black Man – Middle Aged)
PINE: A prickly one, but curious. Moves well. (Black Man – Young Adult)
WEEPING WILLOW: A feeler. Moves well. (Black Trans Male Identified – Young Adult)
THE WANDERER: CAST. A lost soul, returned. Moves well. (Black Masculine Woman – Middle Aged)
