BREAKDOWN
All ethnicities encouraged
The play uses three styles:
-- Act I is melodrama based on Syrian soap operas (comedic chops are essential)
-- Act II is realism
-- Act III is movement-based and emotionally intense (physical theatre or dance training is essential)
Andrea/Hadeel: 20s-30s, female, any ethnicity. Andrea is part of the acting troupe putting on KISS. Andrea is quieter,gentle, and emotionally open. She plays Hadeel, who is a strong young woman passionately in love with her boyfriend's best friend.
Youssif/Daniel: 20s-30s, male, any ethnicity. Daniel is part of the acting troupe putting on KISS. Daniel issimple-minded in his acting, well-meaning, wants to get it right. He plays Youssif, who is an dark, moody artist type. He is passionately in love with his best friend's girlfriend.
Ahmed/Martin: 20s-30s, male, any ethnicity. Martin is part of the acting troupe putting on KISS. He is opinionated andtalkative. He is a pushy actor, always wanting to get his way. Martin plays Ahmed, who is Hadeel's boyfriend. Ahmed is bright-eyed and in love.
Bana/Laura: 20s-30s, female, any ethnicity. Laura is the artistic director of the acting troupe putting on KISS. Strong,comfortable public speaker, leading lady type. She plays Bana within the play, who is a TV star. Bana takes up a lot of physical and psychic space in the room.
Additionally, we have two other roles that are on video:
Woman: Syrian woman, 30s-40s. Lives in a refugee camp. She been through a lot of loss, which has made her to thepoint and direct. Speaks in fluent Arabic and in English with an accent. Sings at the end of the show.
Interpreter: Volunteer at Syrian refugee camp in Lebanon. White. 20s-30s. Any gender. Speaks fluent Arabic.
