Seeking:
STANLEY KOWALSKI: Around 30 years of age. An overt, but effortless, sexual presence. The husband of Stella. Stanley is the epitome of vital force. He is loyal to his friends, passionate to his wife, and heartlessly cruel to Blanche. He sees himself as a social leveler, and wishes to destroy Blanche’s social pretensions.
STELLA KOWALSKI: Blanche’s younger sister, about 25years old and of a mild disposition that visibly sets her apart from her more vulgar neighbors. Stella possesses the same timeworn aristocratic heritage as Blanche, but she jumped the sinking ship in her late teens and left Mississippi for New Orleans. There, Stella married lower-class Stanley, with whom she shares a robust sexual relationship. Stella’s union with Stanley is both animal and spiritual, violent but renewing.
BLANCHE DuBOIS: Stella’s older sister, is a loquacious and fragile woman around the age of 30. Though she has strong sexual urges s, she puts on the airs of a woman who has never known indignity.

KENNY FRANKS: 30’s: Dry, witty, sane. (Inspired by Larry Gelbart and Carl Reiner).
VAL SLOTSKY: late 40’s Fussy, Russian émigré. The head writer, in charge of this room of insanity. (Mel Tolkin).
BRIAN DOYLE: late 30’s/early 40’s: Smart, funny, and a hustler. Always pushing that next Hollywood screenplay. (Tony Webster)
MILT FIELDS: 40’s: Funny and eccentric. The one-liner king. (Sheldon Keller)
CAROL WYMAN: late 20’s-early 30’s: The only woman in the room of male-driven crazy. She cannot only keep up, but is every bit the equal to the guys in the room. She is truly “one of the boys.” (Lucille Kallen)
IRA STONE: 30’s (Mel Brooks). A hypochondriac, ALWAYS late and annoying. The other writers put up with him as he’s a comic genius.
HELEN: Max’s assistant. We find out late in the play that she aspires to be one of the team herself.

FLOYD: 25-35, a caver who dreams of something bigger than his life in the Kentucky hill country. Stubborn and resolute, he is eternally hopeful that things are going to work out. Wide-range Baritone, low F# - high A, falsetto (yodel) to C - strong & versatile soloist, excellent musicianship a must, ability to read music strongly preferred. Serious candidates encouraged to familiarize themselves with score before auditioning.
HOMER: 20-30, Floyd’s younger brother. Passionate, emotional and hot-headed, he is single-minded in his goal to free Floyd in spite of the odds. Wide-range Tenor (low B or lower to high C) - strong & versatile soloist, excellent musicianship a must, ability to read music strongly preferred. Serious candidates encouraged to familiarize themselves with score before auditioning.
NELLIE: 20-30, Floyd’s sister. Delicate and almost ghostly. She has a childlike quality which others interpret as emotional immaturity, but she actually knows more than she lets on. Wide-range Soprano or Mezzo (low F to high A - strong & versatile soloist, excellent musicianship a must, ability to read music strongly preferred. Serious candidates encouraged to familiarize themselves with score before auditioning.
LEE: 50-60, Floyd’s father. Stoic and taciturn, he is a God-fearing man who was raised on the rough soil of Kentucky, unequipped to handle the disintegration of his family. Baritone (low A - high G), strong soloist & ensemble singer excellent musicianship.
MISS JANE: 45-55, Floyd’s stepmother. The anchor of the Collins family, she has a quiet strength and stolidity. Alto/Mezzo (low F# - high D, prefer up to F#), strong soloist & ensemble singer, excellent musicianship.
SKEETS MILLER: 20-30, a reporter for the Louisville Courier-Journal. Eager, energetic, anxious to get his first big scoop, he is the only man small enough to reach Floyd. Torn apart by guilt over the media circus he has created. Baritone or Tenor (low B - high G), strong soloist & ensemble singer, excellent musicianship. His solo is a very intricate talk-song.
H.T. CARMICHAEL: 45-55, the engineer assigned to get Floyd out of the cave. Arrogant, overbearing and disdainful of the uneducated locals he is forced to deal with, he is an outsider in a very tight-knit community. Vocal range flexible - strong ensemble singer.
JEWELL ESTES: Must Play Guitar. 18-25, a local teenager. Simple and good-natured, he is a big talker and the butt of the jokes around Sand Cave. Baritone (low A - high F), folk singer, strong soloist & ensemble singer, ability to play guitar & read music preferred.
BEE DOYLE: 30-45, the owner of the farm above Sand Cave. Tough, weathered and severe, he is a local farmer who is forced to watch as his farm is transformed into a media circus. Baritone (low A - high F), folk singer, strong soloist & ensemble singer.
ED BISHOP: 30-45. African American or Caucasian. a local caver who is in over his head. Baritone (low A - high F), folk singer, strong soloist & ensemble singer.
DR. HAZLETT: 35-45, a doctor from Chicago. Also plays a Sand Cave local and a slick newspaper reporter from the city. Tenor - strong soloist & ensemble singer excellent musicianship & ability to sing tight harmonies.
CLIFF RONEY: 25-35, a slick newspaper reporter from the city. Also plays a Sand Cave local. Tenor - strong soloist & ensemble singer excellent musicianship & ability to sing tight harmonies.
