Breakdown

Seeking:

BECKER:
60s. African-American. Well-respected man who runs the jitney station. Keeps his own counsel. Doesn’t suffer fools. Rigid code of honor. There is real pain submerged in his still waters.

TURNBO:
Late 50s. African-American. Jitney driver who is always interested in the business of others. Opinionated and contrarian. Easily offended. Never wrong, in his own eyes.

YOUNGBLOOD:
Mid-late 20s. African-American. Jitney driver and Vietnam veteran. Proud, energetic and outgoing. Driven to make a good life for his family. His heart is in the right place, but he still has some growing up to do.

FIELDING:
50s. African-American. Jitney driver and former tailor, with a dependency on alcohol. Drifts through life without making too many waves. Always a dollar short.

DOUB:
50s. African-American. Longtime jitney driver and Korean War veteran. Even-keeled. A live-and-let-live kind of guy. Thoroughly decent.

SHEALY:
40s. African-American. Numbers taker who often uses the jitney station as his base. Good company. Knows everyone. Upbeat.

PHILMORE:
Late 40s. African-American. Local hotel doorman. Recurring jitney passenger. Responsible to his job; less responsible to his wife.

BOOSTER:
39. African-American. Becker’s son. Recently released from prison after 20 years. Smart, calm, well-spoken. Philosophical about the time he’s done and the choices he’s made. Looking forward to moving on. Proud.

RENA:
20s. African-American. Youngblood’s girlfriend and mother of their young son. Trusting, but not a pushover. Pragmatic, level-headed, unafraid of confrontation. Loving.
