JELLY'S LAST JAM
SYNOPSIS: Take your seat at the legendary Jungle Inn nightclub for an electrifying musical telling the story of jazz through one of its most notorious entertainers: Jelly Roll Morton. Journey from the back alleys of New Orleans to the dance halls of Chicago to the stages of New York with “he who drinks from the vine of syncopation” in a sizzling memoir of pride, lust and a past denied.
IMPORTANT NOTE: JELLY’S LAST JAM is in part about the historic discrimination and prejudice even among melanated Black Americans. Since this is a seminal pillar of the content it is imperative that believability as Creoles and that the skin color of specific characters be engaged at the audition point. We respect that these issues are deep and can be inflammatory and traumatic for some, but we ultimately support JELLY’S LAST JAM as an honest and unflinching look at a Black life in America, as written by the genius, George C. Wolfe.
