(role CAST) 38. Korean-American. Born here. Doesn't speak Korean. Acerbic, sarcastic, thinks with his gut. Not one to dwell on uncomfortable or sad thoughts, he likes to stay in motion and keep busy. A guy's guy, he would rather smoke in the back with his friends than talk about feelings. He likes grubby food and is unpretentious, sharp and competitive.
LUCIEN
(role CAST) Late 40s-early 50s. Male. West African. A naturalized citizen who came as a refugee. He works as a hospice nurse. He is no-nonsense, matter-of-fact. But he is kind, experienced and comfortable with death as well as with the outsized emotions of those dealing with death.
CORNELIA
(role CAST) 28. Korean-American. Born in Korea, raised mostly in America. Fluent in Korean and English. Sharp and tough, she is intimidating. But her hard exterior covers (what else?) a soft side. She's a romantic in the guise of a ball-buster.
STRANGER/UNCLE
(role CAST) Late 50s and 40s. Korean. Speaks only Korean. An old bachelor. Kindly, warm-hearted. A bit eccentric. He is earthy, a little rough around the edges.
DIANE
(role CAST) 40. American. Affluent (and not entirely comfortable with it), liberal, well-traveled. She’s affable and warm, with a self-deprecating sense of humor. Has a quality of sadness or lostness that comes out in the briefest glimpses. Also plays VOICE
RAY’S FATHER
(role CAST) 50s and 60s. Born in Korea, lived in America for over four decades. An aloof, reserved man who has trouble showing emotion.

20. Caucasian. Circus performer. Younger brother of circus owner CP Conyers. The actual financial brains behind the circus operation, Gabriel sacrifices himself to his brother’s verbal and physical abuse in order to deflect it away from the other sideshow performers. Mid 30’s. African-American. Ida Lou is a pretty widow with a newborn baby, migrating from the South to Kansas. Lost her husband to nightrider terrorism. Heartsick, frightened but strong-willed. Also plays Aunt Dinah, an attractive wise-cracking woman who is shrewdly pragmatic about sharing her favors with powerful men in her life, in order to secure benefits for her beloved, powerless family. Mid 30’s. African-American. Bitter, defensive, disheartened mail order bride. Her life’s been nothing but a hellish sequence of orphanages, workhouses and employers who pay her a pittance while sexually harassing her.
