Seeking NOTE: The entire musical is a cappella. This is an ensemble piece. All must be exceptional musicians (MUST read music, some degree of sight-reading is preferable) and versatile comic actors. see breakdown for more info.
Preparation For auditions all songs will be accompanied by a pianist at first, not a cappella. Prepare a contemporary, uptempo pop song. Can choose from Jason Robert Brown, Andrew Lippa, Tom Kitt, Ricky Ian Gordon, recent Alan Menkin, Michael John LaChiusa, and other similar artists. Bring picture and resume

Breakdown
NOTE: The entire musical is a cappella. This is an ensemble piece. All must be exceptional musicians (MUST read music, some degree of sight-reading is preferable) and versatile comic actors. All of the actors (other than Boxman) play multiple parts. SEEKING A MULTICULTURAL CAST; A TRUE “MELTING POT” OF NYC: ALL ETHNICITIES. Vocal ranges listed represent roughly 2 octaves. A cappella experience a plus. ________________________________________
SEEKING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
WOMEN
JANE/MEZZO (Early to mid 30s): Vocal Range: F# to G, needs Eb belt for solo. Solos are in contemporary pop style. Instantly likeable girl next door with a sense of humor. Funny but vulnerable. Jane is the major role, plays other comic characters as well. Must be a good belter with a seamless upper mix.
ALI/SOPRANO (mid to late 20s): Vocal Range: A to A#, solos fall fairly low in standard soprano range. Solos are in contemporary pop and folk styles. Versatile comic actress able to play multiple parts/ages including Ali, a quirky, single-in- the-city girl dealing with lost love. Ability to belt/mix, but also sing straight-tone in upper register.
MS. WILLIAMS/ALTO (mid 30s to mid 40s): Vocal Range: F to F. Solos are in big soul-belt and R&B styles. Versatile comic character actress able to play multiple parts/ages including Jane’s temp boss (a strong, 40-something executive) and a less-than-helpful MTA booth attendant. Solid low notes required; high belt a plus.
KATHY/SOPRANO (20’s-40’s): Vocal Range: G to G. Versatile comic actress to play multiple parts/ages.
THE STEWARDESS/ THE INTERVIEWER/ALTO (20’s-40’s): Vocal Range: F below middle C to E. Versatile comic actress to play multiple parts/ages.
MEN
BOXMAN (20s to 40s): Amazing Beatboxer/Vocal Percussionist. Charismatic, quirky subway performer/comedian/poet/philosopher. The “heartbeat of the city,” his rhythm and energy drive the show.
TRENT/TENOR (late 20s to mid 30s): Vocal Range: A to A, needs high A for solos. Solos are in country and contemporary pop styles. Versatile comic actor able to play multiple parts/ages including Trent, a gay man coming to terms with his religious southern family. Must be able to play over-the- top comedy as well as honest vulnerability.
STEVEN/ TENOR (mid 30s): Vocal Range: Ab to B. Versatile comic actor able to play multiple parts/ages including Trent’s fiance Steven, who comes from a more liberal family than Trent.
NATE/BARITONE (early to mid 30s): Vocal range: F to F. Solos are in rock and contemporary pop styles. Versatile comic actor able to play multiple parts/ages including Nate, an ex-banker trying to find himself. Jane’s romantic interest. Must be able to cover basslines in addition to harmonies.
CHRIS/BASS (mid 30s to early 40s): Vocal range: Eb to E. Vocal percussion skill a plus. Versatile comic actor able to play multiple parts/ages including Chris, a sports-loving, beer-drinking guy’s guy. Must have a big resonant bass sound.??
DAVE/BASS (mid 30s): Vocal range: Low C to Eb. Vocal percussion skill a plus. Versatile comic actor able to play multiple parts/ages including Dave, an ex-boyfriend. Must have a big resonant bass sound.
