BREAKDOWN

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET

Book by COLIN ESCOTT and FLOYD MUTRUX
Original Concept and Direction by FLOYD MUTRUX
Inspired by ELVIS PRESLEY, JOHNNY CASH, JERRY LEE LEWIS, and CARL PERKINS
First Rehearsal: May 30, 2025
Performances: June 19 - June 28, 2025
Closing: June 28, 2025

SEEKING:

ELVIS PRESLEY – M, 22+. Excellent singer within the style (Long Tall Sally, Hound Dog, That’s Alright Mama). Plays guitar (confident rhythm). 'The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ at the beginning of his career. A humble man who misses simpler times. Able to embody Elvis without being strictly an impersonator. NOTE: Piano is a plus. Dance experience is a plus.
JOHNNY CASH - M, 23+. Excellent singer within the style (Folsom Prison Blues, Walk the Line, Ghost Riders in the Sky). Plays guitar (very confident rhythm). An authentic folk/rockabilly singer/player – austere, with authority. Able to embody the spirit of Johnny Cash without being strictly an impersonator. Big voice, can command a room without trying.
JERRY LEE LEWIS - M, 22+. Incredible piano player and singer within the style (Whole Lotta Shakin’, Great Balls of Fire, Wild Child). Rock ‘n’ Roll’s legendary piano man – dangerous, sexy, energetic, 100% certain of his importance. NOTE: Physical resemblance is not as important as capturing the spirit of 'The Killer'. Good mover needed (character jumps off of a piano, among other things.)
CARL PERKINS - M, 25+. Excellent guitar player (substantial lead guitar with feel – will need to recreate some existing solos.) Rockabilly singer (Who Do You Love, Matchbox, See Ya Later Alligator). 'The Father of Rockabilly', and the writer of “Blue Suede Shoes”. Comfortable, and can hold a room.
DYANNE - F, 22+. A singer who arrives with Elvis. A confident rock belter with range (I Hear You Knockin’ and Fever). A bit brassy, can hold her own alone with the most powerful/famous people in her world. Mild dance. NOTE: Piano skills welcome.
SAM PHILLIPS - 33+. The founder of Sun Records – discovered and developed the greatest artists of the era. Holds the focus while giants play hits. A charismatic character who is larger-than-life (in his way).
BROTHER JAY - Bass player (upright rockabilly, advanced western swing). Carl’s brother (resemblance irrelevant).
FLUKE – Rockabilly drummer (simple kit, brushes and sticks, good control).

WAITRESS

Book by Jessie Nelson
Music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles
Based upon the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly
Director: Shirley Serotsky
Choreographer: Aimee Rials
First Rehearsal: June 17, 2025
Performances: July 10 - July 19, 2025
Closing: July 19, 2025

SEEKING:

JENNA: Female, Any Race/Ethnicity, 25-35. Charming, realistic, funny, down-to-earth. Stuck in her life as a waitress in a small town, she finds escape through her passion for baking pies. Trapped in an unhappy marriage by circumstance and dwindling options. Excellent pop/rock voice with great range. Vocal Range: F#3-F5.
DAWN: Female, Any Race/Ethnicity, 22-30. Particular, quirky, endearing. The youngest of the waitresses. She sets the tables, painstakingly ensuring each salt and pepper shaker is equidistant from the napkin holder. Excellent pop/rock/folk voice. Vocal range: G3-E5.
BECKY: Female, Any Race/Ethnicity, 35-50. Irreverent, direct, compassionate, been there, made it back, and somehow kept moving forward. Wicked sense of humor with excellent comedic timing. Soulful pop voice with an excellent pop belt. Vocal range: Eb3-E5.
DR. POMATTER: Male, Any Race/Ethnicity, 30-45. Handsome, endearing, and slightly neurotic. Jenna's gynecologist with whom an unexpected extramarital affair is born. Has a quirky sense of humor and a big heart, despite the fact that he’s contributing to the affair. Has great comedic timing and moves well. Strong pop/rock tenor that can navigate the musical style of Sara Bareilles with ease. Vocal Range: Bb2-Bb4.
EARL: Male, Any Race/Ethnicity, 25-40. Jenna’s husband. Impulsive, moody, sometimes hopeful, sometimes broken – his best days were in high school. Narcissism mixed with cluelessness. Vocal range: Eb3-G4. NOTE: Guitar playing a plus.
OGIE: Male, Any Race/Ethnicity, 25-35. Becomes slightly obsessed with Dawn (in a hilarious yet endearing way) after she goes on a 5-minute date with him. Quirky, incredibly persistent, and odd, yet kind. Excellent comedic timing. Strong pop/rock tenor/baritenor sound. Vocal range: C3-Bb4.
JOE: Male, Any Race/Ethnicity, 55-70. The owner of the diner where Jenna, Dawn, Becky, and Cal work. A seemingly old, curmudgeonly man who has a soft spot for Jenna (and her pie), warm at heart. A sarcastically funny and no-nonsense guy with a keen ability to read people. Vocal range: B2-G#4.
CAL: Male, Any Race/Ethnicity, 40-50. A chef at the diner. A “Salt of the Earth” guy. Brash, impatient, unsentimental, but somehow charming. Strong pop/rock voice with comedic chops. Vocal range: B2-G4.
LULU: Young Girl, to play 4-5 years old. Daughter of Jenna and Earl. A sweet, carefree child who appears in the last scene of the show. Confident and be able to engage in a small amount of dialogue and movement on stage.
ENSEMBLE: Must have excellent pop voices in the style of Sara Bareilles, great comedic timing, and be able to play a range of characters comprising the community in which the story takes place. Seeking strong movers/dancers. 5 ENSEMBLE ROLES.

SEEKING:

SHERLOCK HOLMES: 30s-40s, female-identifying. A once-in-a-generation genius. Eccentric. Focused, to a fault. Can be less-than-sensitive. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operating on a totally different level than civilians. Like many geniuses, has a megalomaniac streak. Gets bored easily; likes applause; sometimes accused of being unfeeling. LOVES costumes and drama.
DR. JOAN WATSON: 30s-40s, female-identifying. American. Formerly type-A high-achiever. Recently divorced; struggling to find herself, feels broken. Reflexively defensive. Once had great bedside manner. Wry. Smart.
IRENE ADLER/MRS. HUDSON/MRS. DREBBER: Late 20s-40s, female-identifying. Irene Adler: A whip-smart, super-charming sex worker finding success at the highest levels. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operating on a totally different level than civilians. Has incredible charm, confidence, and wit, and she knows it — uses it without mercy. Mrs. Hudson: Holmes & Watson’s long-suffering landlady. Mrs. Drebber: Seemingly an ordinary housewife. Somebody you would be very wise not to underestimate.
MORIARTY/LESTRADE/ELLIOT MONK: 30s-50s, male-identifying. Moriarty: A criminal so great you’ve never heard of him. A master blackmailer; knows just when to play his cards. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operating on a different level than civilians. Wears many masks. A professional. Amoral, but you’d like him. Lestrade: An inspector new to his position at Scotland Yard. Not very imaginative. Often says the wrong thing. Elliot Monk: An amoral tech billionaire from Texas.
