Breakdown
The play is set in a military hospital in 1959. The three men are all World War I veterans in their mid-60's.
Note: The play is set in France, but characters use standard American speech.
GUSTAVE: Ascerbic, world-weary. The leader.
HENRI: Somewhat shy and complacent. Uses a cane due to a foot injury.
PHILLIPE: High-strung - a conspiracy theorist. Prone to seizures due to shrapnel in his brain.
