SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in Greater Boston Stage Company's 2023-24 Season's plays (see breakdown).

GBSC encourages participation by performers of all races and ethnicities.

PREPARATION

Actors may choose to perform one or more monologues of their choice, read one or more scenes from the season’s plays, or a combination of scene(s) and monologue(s) within the confines of the time allotted. A reader will be provided for those who wish to read from scripts.

We Had a Girl Before You is written as a solo play.

Seeking:

Edwina “Weenie” Trout, (30s-50s, any ethnicity) Our (unreliable) narrator, who also portrays several other characters. Weenie tells a story of travelling to a decrepit mansion where evil seems to lurk around every corner. Full of classic gothic melodrama and horror tropes, it is unclear if her story is true or the workings of a broken mind.

ALL IS CALM: The Christmas Truce of 1914 by Peter Rothstein

With musical arrangements by Erick Lichte & Timothy C. Takach

OLD ROSE, Problematic and doesn’t give a f#!*.

ROSE DEWITT BUCATER, Kate Winslet.

CALEDON HOCKLEY, An arrogant, snooty, chauvinistic scion. And those are his good traits. CAPTAIN SMITH, stoic seaman three days from retirement. Knows everything about the sea. WILLIAM MCMASTERS MURDOCH, First Mate. Young and eager. Knows everything about the ship. FREDERICK FLEET, Most of Frederick’s ideas are well-intentioned. Poorly executed. REGINALD LEE, Most of Reginald’s ideas are poorly intentioned. Also poorly executed. JOHN J. ASTOR, Titan of industry. And a highly functioning alcoholic.

MOLLY BROWN, A convenient plot device from Texas.

JACK DAWSON, Lives for the moment, without a care in the world.

FABRIZIO BOYARDEE, As Italian as they come.

Seeking:

NICELY-NICELY JOHNSON, B5-D4, 30-45: Just like his name suggests, he is the nicest and cheeriest of the gambling crooks. High-spirited and a bit naïve, but sincere and genuine. Nathan’s loyal friend and lackey.

BENNY SOUTHSTREET, G5-D4, 30-45: Nathan’s right-hand man and a gambler himself. Smart, slick, always moving and shaking, but with what he thinks are Nathan’s best interest at heart.

SARAH BROWN, G5-B3, 20-30: A pretty, bright-eyed woman who serves as Sergeant of the local Mission. Idealistic, sheltered, and straightlaced, she is passionate about her cause and wishes to convert the gambling sinners to saints. Falls unexpectedly in love with gambler Sky Masterson along the way.

ARVIDE ABERNATHY, Strong Baritone, 50+: He is the older, wiser leader of the Salvation Army in Times Square. He is a reasoned old man with a warm heart.

HARRY THE HORSE, G5-F3, 35-55: A crook and gambler. He is a tough guy with dollar signs as his bottom line.

LT. BRANNIGAN, Male, 40-55: A New York police officer who is on to Nathan’s illegal craps games and is dead-set on catching him. A tough, no-nonsense character.

NATHAN DETROIT, Male, F5-D4, 35-45: A good-hearted gambler and craps game organizer who could never hit the bigtime. He loves Adelaide, but cannot quit his gambling ways.

MISS ADELAIDE, Female, F5 – A3, 25-35: Nathan’s fiancé and a lead performer at the Hot Box nightclub. She loves Nathan more than anything in the world and desperately wants to get married. Pretty, outspoken, stubborn.

SKY MASTERSON, Male, E5-B3, 30-45: A high-stakes gambler whose luck never seems to run out, and a wild card who surprises himself when he falls in love with missionary Sarah Brown. Suave, smart, handsome.

BIG JULE, Male, G5-F3, 30-50: A big time craps player from Chicago who uses a gun and his own pair of rigged dice to bully his way into never losing. Tough looking. A bit of an oaf.
