Seeking the following actor tracks:
PIP
Male, 20’s. Handsome, attractive, and charismatic. For the first third of the play he is in his teens. Starts as working class boy and naïve dreamer of seven, comes into wealth, deserts his friends, and eventually recognizes that money does not make happiness.
ACTOR ONE
Male, 40’s-50’s. Physically imposing. Plays the following roles:
Magwitch- An escaped convict who grows rich in Australia, takes a liking to Pip, and becomes his anonymous patron
Mr. Jaggers- A lawyer of great standing and accomplishment who suffers no fools.
ACTOR TWO
Male, Mid 20’s-Mid 30’s, Plays the following roles:
Herbert Pocket: Pips best friend in London. Honest, loyal, witty, good hearted.
Mr. Wopsle: A clerk in Pip’s church who goes to London to try his hand at acting. An eccentric narcissist.
ACTOR THREE
Female, Late 30’s. Strong character actress to play the following roles:
Mrs. Joe: Pip’s controlling older sister who constantly reminds Pip of all she has done for him.
Miss Havisham: A broken-hearted, reclusive and intimidating woman who was abandoned and swindled by her fiancé on her wedding day. She raises Estella to exact revenge on all men.
ACTOR FOUR
Female, 20’s. Must be able to play both ingénue and character roles, including Magwitch’s arch nemesis, Compeyson and the following roles:
Estella: beautiful, poised, haughty teen-aged girl who is raised as a heart-breaker. Eventually meets her match and then grows to appreciate Pip.
Biddy: teacher and advisor to Pip and Joe’s helper and eventual wife. Self-less, loving, down-to-earth and loyal.
Compeyson: Magwitch’s former partner in crime and nemesis. An unrepentant criminal.
ACTOR FIVE
Male, 30’s-40’s, African American. Must be able to play both working class and gentlemen roles including the following:
Joe: A muscular blacksmith, husband to Pip’s sister, and Pip’s adopted father. In spite of Pip’s snobbery, Joe remains faithful and loving towards him.
Mr. Wemmick: Chief clerk for Jaggers. Business-like and unemotional in the office, but at home is a caring, gentle man who becomes a friend and advisor to Pip.
Bentley Drummle: A snobbish gentleman who marries Estella and abuses her.
